AMS dual spiral vend

I have this AMS VBC39 combo, but seem not to have much luck with the top tray which is dual spiral, i tried from bars to chip bags but it seems to jam. The motors work fine as i tested all of them, but dispensing seems to always jam.

I must be doing something wrong, just can't figure it out..

Any thought folks ?

Thanks

Those columns are not designed for candy bar sized items, you need wider products up there.

Get your bags out of the narrow spirals and up to the dual spirals.  Get your other snacks out of the bottle row and put cans and bottles there.  You're trying to use the machine in a way it wasn't designed for.  Don't be one of "those" vendors.  You're lucky to have the dual spirals but you have to use them and the bottle rows correctly.  If the location doesn't need the two rows of drinks then this is the wrong machine to use.

Either your spirals are sticky or the bags you're putting in are too big. I'd bet that the spirals are sticky. I have rarely ever seen items get stuck in dual spirals. If your spirals are too narrow (too many items per selection), then you can get spirals with a smaller vend count. 10-11 count spirals are pretty average and should vend anything.

First thing... check to see if your spirals are sticky.

Or the shelf they sit on

Yep, not loaded correctly!!  Wrong product in the wrong spirals. Also some of your spirals are not set to the right positions.

I did, why?

Because I doubt he has a sticky spiral or tray problem. It is just loaded wrong in many ways.

I just can't bring myself to believe that someone could have that much trouble with dual spirals unless there's something mechanically wrong. I figured he put the other items in the wrong slots because he didn't have anywhere else to put them.

Ok Guys- for the records, i shuffled the products in many locations, different sized from bars to chips, with no luck.

Now tell me what product should work well with the dual spirals ? Please name a few and I'll test them.

ON another note- I went to location today to do some more testing, but the warehouse was about to close, when i ran a motor test all motors tested OK- but what I noticed was that when I try to dispense anything only one spiral spins, the other don't..

I will need to verify that tomorrow, since i wasn't allowed to do more testing today.

Also, forgot to mention that I have this machine for only 2 weeks, and few months in vending so please forgive my ignorance, still trying to lean the ins and out..

Dual sprials are designed for chips in bags. Even with that it still has to fit correctly. A large thick bag will not work well in a smaller (higher count) spiral. Smaller bags like Cheetos need to go in smaller dual spirals and thicker bags like Doritos, popcorn, need to go in the larger dual spirals.

Candy bars and similar shaped items are supposed to go in single spirals.

Look on Youtube and search "how to load your vending machine" their are a few helpful videos.

Since you have dual spirals I assume this is a Sensit 2 or 3 machine (2 line credit display) and not a Sensit 1 (single line display).  If so then to get both motors to work you must have a CCW motor next to a CW motor with the corresponding spirals.  These motors have home switches on them (to be explained later).  The spirals only come in 7 or 10 counts and they must match each other in a pair.  Now, here is the issue with dual spiral trays.  Because the motors have home switches on them (those are the only CW and CCW motors you can get) they must be located in one of the bottom two positions in the machine which are the G and H selections where you currently have your bottle trays.  Beyond that the AMS manual doesn't state how you can pair the two motors together so they will run together nor do they indicate that there is a single dual spiral motor available.  I think that someone before you though that they could just randomly put dual spiral selections in the machine and found out that it didn't work, then sold the machine to you as a "working machine."  Unless someone knows differently, or you speak to AMS tech support to find out differently, I think you need to restore the snack shelves back to 5 selections of large spirals so the machine will work correctly.  Since the machine has the Sensit system, large single spirals aren't a big problem when loaded correctly because the Sensit system will overcome most stuck products (that's what it's for).

So, is there any way for me to find out what kind of motor i have for the dual spirals? I have another tray that has 2 dual and 3 single.

To convert all these to single spiral, all i need to do is change the spirals and the motors ?

Well, it's hard to answer. If your motors are dual-spiral motors, meaning one motor spins both spirals simultaneously, then there shouldn't be a problem. What AZVendor is probably implying is that you have ONE motor on each spiral and two motors need to be "coupled" to make the selection work in that instance. If you cannot couple motors, then you simply have a candy tray that's missing dividers. To change it back to single spirals, you should only have to pull half of the motors off on that tray, replace the existing candy spirals with snack spirals, and you'll be good to go. Please try to check the back of the tray and see if your motors are dual spiral motors (they look almost like hearts with two spots to mount spirals) or single spiral motors. If they are single spirals, you need to find out from AMS if they can be coupled. Chances are that you do have single spiral motors if only one spiral turns at a time though.

I have to ask, why wasn't this tested before installation?

I can't tell by the photos. Are the motors dual spiral motors? Do they have correct spirals? If spirals are either both right or both left handed, they will work fine empty but will jam with product in them test vend them while empty and watch the spirals. Do they spin in opposing directions? Are the also the same count spirals in each selection? If they are mismatched, that would cause product to jam.

OK- i was able to get one working, it seems that the spirals weren't coupled. The previous owner was swearing that they were working before. lol

I was able to get the first one to pair, for some reason could not get the rest paired, need to look at the manual again..

My joy was short lived, as the local guy told me that the machine has to get out, plus something with the cooling it was 78 degrees all the drinks were hot... I played with the temp settings, hopping that was it..

What a way to start a new account.

I took some crappy videos on how it looks now with 1 dual spiral working, but you can get an idea.

Based off of your video, it's very clear to see that the problem has been that your motors weren't coupled.  I can't guide you through how to fix it but you should be good to go once you get them coupled.

As for the cooling, that's a separate issue.

Where did you get this machine?  Was it from a private seller or a vending company?

Chris, was purchased from a private seller.

For $600.

The compressor seems to be running, im thinking it might be low on freon.

If it's running but not cooling then it very well might be low on refrigerant.  You need to turn it off and get it fixed ASAP though or your compressor will burn up.  If I were you, for $600, I would consider sending the whole machine to a refurbisher to fix it up if you have a local refurbisher.  It might cost you between $500 and $1,000 to get it fixed up but I think the machine may be worth it.  It was probably sold for $600 because it had so many issues.

The guy who delivered the machine for me does the refurbishment too, but i will wait to confirm if the machine has to go from the location which really sucks, as i have to pay to move it again..

This is why most of us will bring a machine home first to make sure their operational before placing them on location - it's always easier to deal with issues in your own shop rather than on location (far less pressure)
