How to replace T-Handle

Recommended Posts

You have to remove the retaining clip, washer and spring from the threaded stud inside the door. Then the T-handle assembly will slide out of the flange. Your handle is probably rounded off on the inside or the cross pin is worn If you need either one let me know and I can ship it to you.

Since we are on this topic, I have a problem with a machine.  One of my 501-E's has had a funny t-handle issue since I purchased it.  Once the screw engages, the handle wants to immediately pull itself in (as if to lock the machine) as you twist.  However, the screw will not turn.. but the t-handle will just spin as if something is loose.  To tighten the machine, you have to PULL on the t-handle while twisting simultaneously (after the screw has initially started to twist into the nut).  I'm not sure what the problem is as I obviously cannot see what's happening.

I have never replaced a T-handle or any parts as I (thankfully) try to be as gentle as possible with my doors and t-handles.  Do I just need a new t-handle assembly?  It looks as though all of the parts are there.

Check that you don't have a cross threaded cage nut. You probably also have a worn out T-handle that won't stay engaged with the cross pin. That causes it to slip off the cross pin and 'skip'.

Pull off the T handle and look for missing/loose e-clips. It could be as simple as that.
