New Machine vs Old Machine

Recommended Posts

Hey Guys, I'm newer to vending machines and the forums and I want some advice from some people who are more knowledgeable on the everyday operations of machines than me.  I'm a home user.  I currently have an USI/FSI 3037 (CD-B) that I keep in the back of my garage\shop at my house.  It's an old school Continental Cola machine that I picked up a few months ago for 200 bucks and it does have a few issues but works well for how I want to use it.  The issues are that the validator in the coin mech is bad, the florescent bulbs need replaced, and I don't have a cylinder in the lock.  But since it is home use none of those issues bother me for how I use it.  I have it set to free vend and it cools and vends perfectly on all selections.

My issue is that I have the opportunity to pick up a completely functioning coke branded Dixie Narco 501E for 300 bucks with keys.  My wife and I have mentioned how we would like to keep other stuff in the machine besides 12oz cans and this 501E seems to fit the bill.  Specifically water for her and possibly bottled beer for me when cans are not an option.  But I have never seen the inside of a 501E in person and I don't know the first thing about the shims and the cams.  I don't know what shims it comes with and how easy it is to go back and forth between package types.  I guess my first question is it even worth it to make the change for a home user such as myself?  I like the loading simplicity of the 3037 but I am limited to the 12oz cans.  I like the idea of putting more than cans in the machine, I like the idea of having 1 more selection, and I actually like the way this machine looks better, but wonder if a machine like this ends up being more complicated than convinent.  The next question is if I pick this machine up this weekend do you guys think I could get at least my money back on my first machine?  I'm ok with fixing the machines minor issues if needed to make it more sellable but realistically I wouldn't really be wanting to make a profit just get it out of my way for what I spent.

If nothing else I'm thinking about picking up this new machine just to clean it up and flip it.

I just want to hear the thoughts from the community on this...  Thanks!!!

If it is a fully functioning 501E it would be worth more than what you paid combined for both of these units. The 501E is really pretty easy to operate an set up. You would need additional shims depend on what items you will be vending. I would not recommend glass bottles though. Cant go wrong at that price if all everything works.

As Cvending said, NO GLASS!  The 501E is very versatile within reason and is easy to setup and operate.  I have parts for any setups you might want to make in it.  You can email me at rbepic4gatgmaildotcom if you need any parts for it.  The value of your USI 3037 with no working validator or coin mech is probably not even $200 so if you can sell it for that you are money ahead.

Thanks guys. I blindly bought my machine when I got it, but looking at various sites online I figured I may have slightly overpaid for my machine. But luckily I had a conversation with someone at work that said he'd buy it off me for 200. I explained to him everything that's wrong with it and he wants to use it in the same manor as I do, so that's a load off assuming this machine is as advertised. Another question can a 501e be fitted with a chill rack like my 3037 or is that out? That's where I currently keep my bottled beer that I can't find in cans and I just open the door when that situation comes up.

No, the stack cabinets must remain stack cabinets. If you want the serpentine rack then keep the machine you have. If you want to do bottled beer then get one of the narrow glass door machines from the 60s and use it, but it will cost you more.

There is no room to add anything to the inside of the inner door on the stack machines.  There isn't any purpose for that anyway and would add too much weight to the door, causing the hinges to bend.

I wasn't referring to the serpentine rack I was referring to the non moving overflow rack on the inside of the inner door.

I have  3037 and a 501e and  you could put that same type of rack holder the same as the 3037. Both doors are the same you would just have to drill through the inner door to put screws and nuts on it.
