I'm told that on occasion that the machine will accept dollar bill, vend, and then return dollar bill. At a homeless shelter, set at .75 for cans. Machine is a Merlin IV, with a Coinco 9302-GX coin mech, and a Coinco Mag50b dbv. I'm switching out the dbv, any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks

That is probably a bad bill validator if you haven't changed any switch settings recently.  The validator may not be verifying the actual validity of the the bill in the time slot allotted for that and is rejected after the vend has started.  More than likely you have the machine set to escrow the bills which holds them in the bill path and doesn't try stacking them before a vend is started.  The way the process is supposed to work is when a vend is attempted the validator then tries to stack the bill while finishing the verification which all takes place in a certain time slice.  If this begins after the vend actually starts then you could get the rejection when it's too late to stop a vend.

Before you start replacing random parts take a week’s worth of bills and coins close the door to the machine and buy products until you run out of money or you see the failure for yourself.

 

The failure you discover often will bear little or no resemblance the one the location described to you.

 

Being as you have a CoinCo coin mech. My guess is that it when someone puts in coins they get credit on the machine but also getting back there coin. This is a common failure for that brand if coin mech.

I changed the dbv, turned off escrow, and ran about $50 through it without any issues. The machine does about $250 a week, so I didn't run a whole week, hopefully the problem is handled. Thanks for your help, I really appreciate it. I wasn't paying attention when I originally posted this, it should have been in he correct forum. Rookie move.
