darrenw80
I have an older single price soda machine - I believe vendo 404. Just recently I have found that the coin return will have extra change in it, usually all quarters. I have noticed it a few times and there were $2 - $4 dollars in there. This morning I checked and there was $12 in quarters in the return, I could barely get the return door to move to clear it out. At this point I am sure it is paying out too many quarters, but I'm not sure when or why it is doing it. I have done several tests with dollar bills and coins and always get the correct change back. I've watched others make purchases and get the correct change. I've tested the manual coin/selenoid buttons on the coin mech and no problems there, always kicks out the right number of quarters, doesn't stick. I feel like it just randomly starts kicking out quarters when no one is looking? Anyone have thoughts on how to check or correct this issue, or what the problem might be? The coin mech is a coinco 9300-dex model 9370-s and I have a Coinco MagPro Mag50B Bill Validator connected to it. Thanks
AZVendor
This is a jackpotting situation and is probably happening when no one is using the machine. You could have fluctuating power from the building or your ground pin on the power cord is missing. If you don't have a good ground all the way to the wall you could get stray spikes in the machine with nowhere to go. If the power is fluctuating then you could be getting a power spike or a brownout causing this. If none of these issues exist then you need to replace the coin mech. You can email me for an exchange unit at rbepic4gatgmaildotcom.
rmorris1953
One of the strangest things I had happen to me was on a vendo in front of a grocery store. I had several calls that this machine wouldn't except money. I would get there and a credit was on the vendor. Vend a column then test all the columns never to get it to act up. After several calls I found the problem. The cooling deck!Yes the cooling deck. Every time the the compressor came on it would set the credit relay. If you don't have a spare coin mech and you have another vendor try swapping coin mechs to see if problem follows it. The harness between the bill validator and coin mech could be fraid This could be causing a short on the credit line.
darrenw80
Update - So it's been awhile. I tested the voltage at the outlet and getting a good steady 122 v. Checked the machine plug and the pins are all there and seem secure. I read some posts about the lights sometimes causing jackpot issues. If I remove the lights from the machine and it continues to jackpot I can eliminate those as a possible cause, correct?
AZVendor
The lights can definitely be the cause, especially if it is darkening at the ends. When the bulb ages it can turn off and then when trying to restart it sends out electromagnetic pulses that the board doesn't recognize or sees as some random command such as paying change non-stop. Remove the bulb or replace it with a new one and if the problem stops you know that was the culprit. If the problem still persists then it could be a bulb in the ceiling or in a nearby machine. If you have lights burned out in the ceiling then that could be the cause. If all is good though then you probably have dirty power or fluctuating power. I once had a machine reading 118VAC but it dropped to 98VAC when the compressor started. Low voltage (brown outs) are as bad as spikes. That said, I haven't known single price changers to jackpot. Perhaps cash box coins are being returned to the customer due to misalignment or a bad gate in the changer. The customer isn't expecting change, so they don't check the cup explaining the accumulation of coins.
AngryChris
I'm not sure if it's related or if this is even the problem but a Mars vn 2511 that I had replaced within the last 2 years finally stopped working (no power at all). On this machine, I had replaced the coin mech AND validator in addition to removing all of the lights in order to try to prevent the jackpotting issue. In the end, once the validator stopped working, the machine seemed to stop jackpotting. I don't know if having a validator was the issue or how/why that would affect everything else. The ground was connected but I do not know how a dead validator could prevent jackpotting while a working validator could cause jackpotting. Mind you, it was jackpotting with the previous validator too. It makes no sense to me.
darrenw80
Update - I disconnected the lights (unplugged power harness clip) and it was still jackpotting. So I disconnected the bill validator and it is still jackpotting. So I am going to look at replacing the coin mech as the next step.
