Hi guys, I am always trying to think up some quality stuff to sell and the last one is metal brain teasers. My question is do you think there could be a liability claim if I put on the machine 5 years and up? Kids aren't dumb they will not swallow it.

Also: what do you think about the idea as a whole? Thanks for your answers!

So long as you have a sticker or note inside that says "CHOKING HAZARD! SMALL PARTS!" you should be in the (legal) clear. The X-factors for me would be cost, prep-time, and location. Obviously this would have to be a 2" vend, and you'd probably want to swing for a $1 vend price, but can you even source those for less than a dollar with shipping? Metal isn't cheap, nor light when you've got a lot of it coming in. That, and if you're buying them loose you'd be capping them yourself. The time (and inherent cost of your time/sanity) plus the cost of the caps should be factored in. In short, I think it's an okay product that could sell pretty well if you had a spot that did a decent trade in 2" caps on a regular basis, but considering all the other things you'd have to do to get it set and ready on a regular basis, I just don't see it being worth the extra time/money when you can get some pretty good mixes pre-capped for a lot less money/time invested. I just made a killing on THESE little beasties, and they're followed close behind by Flatline's sticky stuff, both sold at $0.75-$1 around here, for example, and I didn't spend an hour or more sorting and capping them for each machine I'm running.

However, if you're saying you've found a supplier that has brain teasers capped and set for vending, I'm all ears!  ^_^

-Edit-

Oh, just came to me! One way you could make it work better, in my mind at least, would be as a leader item. Say you got a bunch of them, capped them with some loose caps, and then added them as leaders to a junk mix to keep the sales coming. Not sure how you'd want to advertise that on your machine, but I can see that spicing up a stagnant 2" head for a spell if you're buying time between deliveries. Might be a way to make that one work for you too. Good luck!

What about the testing and the consumer protection act we all have to abide by?

I'm assuming if you are purchasing the toys in the United States they would have to have passed an inspection when they entered the country, as all toys do. Of course, if you go off the beaten path for products so to speak you do so at your own risk, though I personally wouldn't see any greater hazard in this over selling any other imported product.
