Candyguy
Hi guys What is the best software to use nowadays to maximize your efficiency of traveling to each of your locations besides vendtrak? I've read on past threads many used to use Microsoft streets and trips, but they discontinued that. I'm looking for a software I can put in each of my locations addresses and it would order them for the best efficiency(gas, fastest). Is there a Gps that would do this or some kind of software. I'm not looking to pay a monthly fee because my route isn't big enough yet. Many of the threads I read on this seem to be a bit dated and was wondering what many are using today. Lake Cities Vending
I use mapquest. You can sign in and mark all your locations. Then you just drag and drop to change order. Save your map to add or delete locations.
The Mage
This is called the traveling salesman problem. It is a math problem that has been around, and discussed for almost 200 years. Interestingly the math used for this has been used elsewhere, such as sequencing DNA. But there are route planning programs out there. Last I knew, Vendtrak was exporting to another website for their route planning. A version put out by a mathematician for anyone. I believe this is the most recent version of that: http://gebweb.net/optimap/ Rand McNally has their own version: http://maps.randmcnally.com/ And mapquest has a version: http://classic.mapquest.com/routeplanner And there is this version: http://www.drivingrouteplanner.com/

PerformaVending
I've been using Bing maps when I need any "serious" planning, the rest of the time it's all on the Garmin. Plug it in and go right along. But, then again my locating efforts are more "precise" as I'm usually looking for rack locs.
sweetstop
Ive use batchgeo.com you can copy and paste your locations and it plots a birds eye view so you can see the best route.
The Mage
I think it's less work to throw the route into one of the sites I posted above, (haven't tried batchgeo that sweetstop posted above,) often getting at least 3/4 of the way to designing the route before having to manually adjust it. The Mage
Can you send the maps to a device like Garmin? Optimap can send to Germin or TomTom. MapQuest can be sent to OnStar or Sync. Driving Route Planner sends the info out as a GPX file. Aparently the generic GPS type of file.
rodney69
Thank you. The program that Garmin uses for routing sucks! Takes to long. I appreciate the info.
Pete Schweddy
I use my smart phone. Just don't be talking, texting, mapping, drinking coffee, and organizing product all at the same time! I learned that the hard way.
