Thoughts on Merlin IV Series 5 Model RVCDE-650-10

I interested in your feed back on this make and model.

Thanks

Sammer

A very good machine. I own 3 of the 768's.  That said I do prefer the Royal GIII's.  The Merlins tend to have their selection switches fail which can be a pain to replace due to their placement and should you lose any of the rear motors, you'll be looking at a three hour turn around to replace them. Overall the GIII is a more reliable design and easier to work on every once in the Blue Moon that they do go down.

Thanks to all I must have purchased one born on a Monday. I have all kinds of trouble with errors, I have replaced the board and nothing. Compressor works when plugged in directly but won't start otherwise. Put in a new temp. sensor and relay for the refrigeration and nothing doing. I am sending it back but what a big pain in the as. Worst part is I stole the account from the big player promising superior service and got this lemon. Life of a vendor I guess.

You can test the relay(s) in the machine thru the control board. The manual is in the download section of this site. It can sometimes take up to 20 minutes for the unit to come on from the time the door is closed. Also, if machine sees the door open for more than 20 minutes the board will assume the door switch is bad and turn the unit on anyways. My gut tells me the switch is wired wrong. It should be COM to NO

Start with relay test.

Best model in my inventory. True dat on the rear motor fix, though. Good thing the motors seem to not go out! Although, I have one motor that does not like non-carbonated 12 oz. cans (squishier (not a real word) than carbonated cans). This is not enough to make me change my mind on the Merlin IV.

If Moondog's experience is common among other vendors, then we are lucky, as I have not had to replace any selection switches (and the kids are rough with them from the outside, and I have accidentally been rough on a few of them from the inside). Moondog (or anyone else who has selection switches fail), what goes wrong with them?

Merlin IV package setup is easy. Programming is easy. Size and weight are great for the capacity. If you figure out Space-to-Sales for the location preferences, you usually have a satisfying machine. Loading is easy, if you get your slow drinks in the back row and map the selections correctly when you set it up. We intend to acquire more (soon, I hope).

Your original question hid a frustrating problem, though, and all of our good experiences do not help fix your problem. Lacanteen's troubleshooting sounds like the right first step, but, if you bought this refurbished (that is what it sounded like in two of your posts), do they not service on location? Especially if the thing should not have left their QC with a problem. The refurbisher from which I prefer to buy is local (20 miles), and they are willing to be on location to service or repair within 24 hours (or ship parts to me overnight, or have them waiting for me to pick up). We are not a big enough operator to get preferential VIP treatment, and my personality is not that winning or pleasant, so I assume they do that for every customer. Unless you broke the machine, it would make sense that they would want to have it fixed...and quickly.

Regardless of all of the above, I am sure everyone here is feeling for you, Sammer, because few things in a small or medium-sized vendor's experience can be more frustrating than planning a great start at a hard-won location, only to see it hit a snag right out of the gate. I get that sinking feeling every time I read a thread that goes that direction.

Hi LB, they are 240 miles away so we have being working by phone and replacing parts without any success so they have decided to have it shipped back at there expense. I have not had any time to try the suggestions that that have come on this forum although I would much rather get it going and not go through the hassle of sending it back. I may have caused the problem but that I am not sure of. thanks for all the suggestions and I will be sure to post any good news.

Merry Xmas and a Happy New Vending Year to all
