Storing cooling decks

At this time I have one working spare Dixie Narco and one non-working Royal vendors.

I have found that I am able to buy used machines that are trashed cosmetically,  but have working cooling decks ( not to mention coin mech, validators, t-handles....)  for $50.00.   The last cooling rebuilt cooling deck (DN) cost me $360.00

At this time I would have to store the cooling deck in my spare bedroom.

What is the best type of box/container to store the deck from a few months to couple of years?

Will a cooling unit lose pressure/freon if stored and not used?

Thanks,

The funny thing about compressors is that some do seem to lose freon while just sitting around but it's generally from units that have tiny, invisible leaks already. What's really happening is that if a unit that barely leaks is in a working machine they will seem to work far longer and that's because while the machine is always cold it masks any loss of freon for a long time until the gas gets low enough to give other symptoms like an iced up evaporator.

Oftentimes low freon will only show itself when a seemingly working cold machine is warmed up by being shut off or being moved to another location. After the cabinet gets warm the machine may then not cool because the freon was just on the edge of being too low and it's actually low enough to not be capable of cooling the machine from a high temperature anymore.

Any time you find a lint free that has a service valve on it. Be cautious. Especially D/N with S/N ending U,V, and W.  These decks are prone to have pin holes in the evaporator and can only be fixed by replacing evaporator. I store mine on shelving and test them every so often. Putting them in boxes prevent me from doing so. I also plug them in before going to a location just to be sure. As soon as the deck is in place I turn it on so I can see frost line while putting screws back in. One thing to keep in mind is when installing in a vendor that is outside in the heat the product inside can be 120 plus degrees. With no humidity so under these conditions, there will not be a frost line until cabinet temperature comes down. Bottles will expand and loose carbonation. Check them for leakage remove those and any that are soft after they have cooled down.
