location procedures

I'm curious what other people's procedures are when it comes to servicing their machines. How do you know what to bring in to the location and what do you use to track what's been sold? Is DEX the norm, or is pen and paper common? I've been using Vagabond on my machines but I would like to know how to run a route without VMS, just for my own knowledge. If anybody is willing to share their procedure for how they stock and pull data from their vending machines on a day to day basis I'd be so grateful.
