Drink machine dispensing coins and cans freely

Recommended Posts

Got a call this morning that my single price, Dixie Narco, drink machine (with Mag50B and 6800h coin mech) is dispensing coins and drinks like its a slot machine. When I arrived on location, I can here the coin mech clicking haphazardly. It was empty of coins.

I reset everything, then put in a bill. Once I made a selection, all the coins started to empty again. Also, I was able to vend drinks without money.

I tried replacing coin mech with another 6800h and even tried a 9340-s.

When I disconnect bill validator however, machine works perfectly with coins only.

Very unusual. If it were mine the Mag 50 would go over the fence, (to be replaced with MEI) and I would replace the credit relay. Check your power cord for damage, and check the wires under the changer plug and credit relay. Make sure your lights aren't flickering.

That's really weird.  It sounds as though your bill acceptor is misreading the bills to be a higher denomination than they really are.  Does this bill acceptor say that it accepts $5's, $10's, or $20's?  I don't think I have ever seen this problem but I HAVE seen one of my single price machines malfunction due to a faulty MAG50B.  For whatever reason, the machine would not operate at all with the bill acceptor installed.  Once I replaced the bill acceptor, everything else worked fine.  I don't know how it happens, but I have seen it.  Still, my best guess is that the bill acceptor is inaccurately reporting a much higher denomination.  What I don't understand though is how you would be able to keep making a selection.  Also, single price machines generally give the change back before the selection is made and not after.

Is the "credit relay" a small transparent box?

Also, I now see a frayed wire (one of two that connects a 6 pin (2x3) plug from the bill validator to the coin mech. When I get a moment I will try to replace it.

Could you suggest a bill validator that would replace a Mag50B... and connect to a 6800H?

The relay is the clear "box" you see plugged in near where the coin mech plugs in.  I doubt that is the issue with a jackpotting coin mech but it can cause your machine to not cancel the credit and then allow repeated vends by pressing any selection button.  If it's jackpotting cans without pressing buttons then you have motor switch problems.  The jackpotting mech may be related to the frayed wire you see as it could be shorting out against some metal.  Repair that first and see what the result is.

Back in the day of none electronic soda machines. I would see this happen when someone would introduce salt water into the coin chute. They would put so much at times that the select switches would short out and cause it to free vend.

Hmmm... this machine so happens to be located at a swimming pool. I promised myself I would not open pool accounts this year for reasons like this. They are way too stressful.

The pool areas, especially inside, will corrode all the metal in the machine from the chlorine in the air.  Pool stores are the worst.

Sewage plants are the worst. That methane gas will kill a Vendo. LOL

That's funny, plain air seems to be killing all my Vendos  ;D  ;D  ;D

This one vendor (Vendo 280) the methane gas in this building would turn the copper black. And since vendo uses cheap cherry switches it would eat them up on the motors and select switches. Once it even got the cold control and froze it up entirely. It was in a bay so I just opened it up and hosed it down. After about 5 years it was traded out for a Dixie Narco 276. Never had a problem again. Cheap cheap switches. They make me money!
