PerformaVending
Hello! On of my oldest snack machines, a USI-2038 30-selection snack machine, has stopped taking coins. The location informed me when I stopped by to refill some of the more popular items- evidently it stopped taking them sometime on Monday, so only a few days ago. When coins are inserted, the mech will just spit the coins back into the return. The mech responds to commands put in (dispense coins and whatnot), but won't take any that are put in, regardless of the mode the machine is in. It is not displaying any error codes as described in the manual either. I attempted to reset the machine going by the manual, but this did not correct the problem. I have taken the mech apart as much as I dared on location to look for any obvious signs of damage, bits of debris, or tampering, but didn't see anything out of the ordinary. The coin mech is an older Mars unit. I'm unsure of what type to be totally honest, so I've attached a picture of both the machine and the mech for your reference. It has functioned reliably for year, so I am hopeful that this is an easy fix. Thank you all in advance for any assistance on this one.

It's obviously time for another coin mech - when that accepter head goes there's nothing you can do to fix it in the field. This is an easy swap out that even a moderator should be able to handle

I'm still out here bumbling around not knowing quite what I'm doing, even after all these years. It remains to be seen if I can swap it out without getting singed. Performa, email me at rbepic4gatgmaildotcom for a replacement. Email sent sir! Thank you!
rmorris1953
It may just need a retuning of the mech. This where a spare mech would pay off. Downtime is a killer of profits and reputation. If you have a nearby vendor that uses the same mech I would take it and test it there. I can't tell from the picture if that mech is a 5810 or a 6810. If it is a 5810 the flight deck can be removed without detaching any wires. The common problem with 5000 series mechs is the pins on the bottom of the flight deck get corrosion and won't make contact. It will do what yours is doing. There could be a problem with the vendor. Yes,yes, I realize that you bulk guys are all hung up on heavy matters such as which wheel to use and should I paint my machine red or yellow but you've crossed over into Big Boy country now and we full line vendors just need harder questions. Note: the coin mech hangs on three studs, once you pop it up it should come right out (if it's singing you want, you'll have to stick your tongue in the control board) To reinstall the new coin mech it is easiest to leave the accepter head loose so you can line up on those three studs, otherwise you're working blind. You have to understand that when Randy has to battle all the rattlesnakes, stomp down the scorpions and beat off the occasional Hila Monster just to get in his door sometimes it takes him awhile to get to his email
TKK
Woahhh thats a museum piece right there! Never seen anything like that. Reminds me of a friend that said hey i like what u do, i bought a few machines for a few thousand and gonna start placing them. I told him awesome, what did u get. I got these, old school snack marts, and tabletop twist things lol. He placed them and made a whopping $50 a month on $7000 of machines lol (4 combos)
Walta
That machine is at least 35 years old! Why are we so sure the coin mech is the problem? If any vend motor is not in the home position that will make the coin mech reject all coins. I say that machine is too old to be putting money into repairs, scrap it and get something newer. PerformaVending
I got the machine for $100 years ago. It's manufacture stamp on the inside says 1978, so it is a dinosaur, but a reliable one at that. This is really it's first real issue. I just wish there was something close to get to replace it quick- but everything for sale right now are 100+ miles out, or mechanical junk. The one thing I need, I can't find to save my life- never fails.

Just like you tell guys in the bulk forum to update mechs, and certain machines is the same case here. Do yourself and your customers a favor and buy something newer. You can find a good looking much newer mdb snack machine for $600+ that will last you years to come. That guy isn't even worth fixing anymore. PerformaVending
Okay, I've got a new photo. Finally got the coin mech out- the previous op had GLUED it in place. I spoke with a couple operators on the phone today, and everyone I spoke to said it's way too old to even find a replacement for the mech. I've got a replacement machine on the way, but I thought I'd make one last gamble that I can replace it, and NOT have to move that 2-ton USI out of there. If not, it looks like I'm getting a Wittern something-or-other, I go to pick it up on Thursday if it's in good shape. Wish me luck.
lacanteen
You may have luck finding that 24VAC single price mech from an old Lance or Tom's distributor. If this machine is placed in the market place "for profit" it's time to upgrade the machine.
