Setting up MEI bill validator

Recommended Posts

Don't want to assume I know... Looking at instructions If I want to accept $1, 2, and 5 switches 4, 5, 6 need to be switched to on?

Anything else I should turn to on, everything arrived in off position. Thanks!!

What do the other options even mean? Don't want to pretend I clearly understand. Thanks again.

Depending on where you got it, it may be good to go, MEI has a programming option that uses mag read scan cards.  However, I usually set the switches:

1 way 2 way 4 way -referrs to how it scan the bills inserted.  1 Way means it will only read a bill that is face up with the correct end inserted first, 2 way = face up either end 4 way = face up or down either end.  I select 4 way to reduce customer confusion.

high acceptance vs high security = high security is supposed to make the validator less likely to accept a false bill.  Also makes it reject many good bills, so unless you have a location with a known problem, select high acceptance.

denomination switches - you are correct.  Some operators still like to take only singles as it makes counting by machine easier, or they are worried about running out of coins in the changer if they accept 5's.  And yes, I have gotten 2's in some of my machines!   Your choice, I want any kind of yankee money someone wants to give me

7 & 8 someone else here could explain.  If the validator does not want to work right for me in the machine I will mess with these, otherwise I leave them as I find them.  Maybe I will learn something about them from someone else's reply!

Thanks so much! Ok, so my settings should allow $1, 2, 5s and not too picky on security or how the bill is inserted. Pulse: TBD

The short pulse and the long pulse settings are typical of single price machines and some others that don't use serial settings and this gives the machine one pulse per bill accepted (one dollar bills only).  If your machine is a serial or an MDB machine then set 7 and 8 to off before you power the unit up and it will auto-configure to either serial or MDB.  If you leave all switches off then you get $1 only, 4 way acceptance, high security, and short pulse interface resulting in one credit pulse for each dollar.  If you change any one switch then you must set the entire validator up with the switches.
