vendman0729
I was wondering what you guys use for older snack machines where the shelves become squeeky and harder to pull out? It's where you know it makes that annoying rusty noise when you pull them out? Anyways I was just planning on spraying some WD-40 where the shelves roll out? I know they also make a lot of different greases and stuff? Is there a certain product any of you guys have found which works best?
Poplady1
If it rolls on plastic wheels, oil probably isn't a good choice.
lacanteen
Food grade silicone spray. Be sure to keep the spray away from electrical motors and connections.
orsd
WD-40 is like a cuss word to many techs, as it weakens plastics and becomes sticky after a while. So, do not use. Ever.
SCOTT1963
LA is right, food grade silicone only and very sparingly no petroleum based products period, besides the gummy destructive residue, in a warm environment your machine will start smelling like dirty motor oil
AZVendor
You should actually keep the rollers and guides dry. Anything you add to them will build up dirt. The guides get dirty enough as it is so simple cleaning should keep them working quietly. If you get squeaks or grinding noises then you probably need to replace the rollers or you have loose roller nuts or bent shelves or shelf guides. vendman0729
Wow it's a good thing I asked. Thanks guys. I noticed that some of the snack machines I bought in the past have gummy destructive residue on the shelves. This is what Scott must have been referring too. It's really sticky everywhere on the shelves and a little dirty. Probably the owners before me used WD-40 or petroleum based products. I guess I can get some hot water and a towel and clean the shelves. I can also use some Goo Gone to get rid of the gooe stuff.
AZVendor
What you're finding on the surfaces of the snack shelves themselves is oil residue from bags of chips. You need to clean it off with orange based cleaner and tons of elbow grease. If you don't then what you load in the columns will stick to the shelves and not vend. vendman0729
Great I will check them out. Do you apply one product after another or do you mix both at the same time? Or can I just use the orange based cleaner and that would be good enough?
AZVendor
Orange based cleaner and a coarse rag do the best job if your muscles can handle the workout.
