Cryptic
Hello Everyone, I am from California, and I just seal the deal on a pre-existing vending machine route. The deal included the four machine and all the goodies inside. I have 2 can soda dispensing machine and 2 snack vending machines, they are already set up at their designated locations. My question amongst the many is do i need to set up a LLC for this or a DBA or anything of the sort? (I am concerned because the machines have been at their designated locations for some time;at least a year or two if not more. They are in working condition with the regular wear and tear you would expect used machines to have, now my concern is what do I need to do about this, I thought it would be a great first side business venture, I just don't want tot take any missteps, in what needs to get done, or should get done. any advice would be much appreciated, and I must say I am glad I finally found a useful forum, with relevant information to assist me. QuikVend
Welcome to the forum and to the world of vending! I wouldn't get into creating an llc or dba right now. Just focus on learning how often you're going to fill the machines and finding all the products you'll need for them. Cans are great. They're easier to handle, easier to find and you can get a pretty good profit margin if you find the sales. What you're going to have difficulty with is the snacks. Having only 2 machines, expired products are going to be a major issue. Make sure you don't overbuy, or you'll literally throw away most of your profit. What do you know about the machines? If you find the make and models, you can find the users manual and Lassen all you can about them. Something will go wrong with them eventually(just the nature of the business), so it's best to try to be prepared.

Here in California, the only legal requirement is that you obtain a resellers licence. We only pay sales tax on sodas here but the certificate will allow you to not pay tax at the register.
