rmorris1953
Follow the instructions and you won't have any problems. Just make sure not to plug anything in with power one.
Amigo
You are a brave person. We just sent two 148's to the junkyard because the shelf design is not worth the cost to upgrade.
AngryChris
The 148 isn't a horrible machine. The primary problem is that the machine is getting outdated and the shelves don't make contact like they used to. Although this can be "permanently fixed"... it takes some money. Personally, I think a 148 with a shelf harness kit + VE UCB would make it very similar to a newer model National except with older motors. For what.. $1,000?? You could have a National 147/148 that looks similar to and works similar to a 167/168. I'm actually considering upgrading my National 147/148's with this setup. The only thing I think I will have to do is add a credit card bezel to the validator. As for timing, for your first time, expect maybe 2 hours. I did my second machine in about 45 minutes including the drop sensor, but I spent maybe 30 minutes trying to remember how to program the machine. BlindVending
Interesting Chris. I was able to pick up the machine very cheap plus $300 for the board kit. Repainted it and it looks great. How much is this harness kit?
AngryChris
I don't remember. Maybe $200? It requires a bit of work though.
Snickers
I did the shelf upgrade and it's not real difficult but it took some time. There is drilling required, all the shelves need removed, etc. It can be done on location but I would want my 1st one made back at the shop. In my opinion the UCB kit on location is easier on location than the shelf kit.
Amigo
After you put the shelf kit in then why not spend $1000.00 and put a revolution door on it. You basically have a 25yr old new machine.
AngryChris
I don't think they are attractive but it does make the machine much better. However, with the door, mech, validator, and shelf harness, you're up to about $1,500. At that point, you really should consider a late-model used machine.
