Gamvend
I have a national 431. It was cooling fine until I serviced the machine and closed the door. Now I notice the compressor will not run and only starts intermittently. I can feel cool air coming through the holes in the turret when it is running. However I feel a considerable amount of heat coming from the bottom from where the compressor deck is. After about 30 seconds of the compressor running it seems like the compressor losses power even though the rest of the machine is operational. As the compressor looses power again after running for only 30 seconds and not reaching temperature, the light on the machine and the price display dims for a second. Do you guys have any ideas what this could be?Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
lacanteen
Sounds like either dirty condenser, or bad condenser motor. The condenser is the part in the bottom that moves the heat out of the cabinet. Is the machine pushed up against the wall? the heat needs to get out. (the absence of heat =cold)
Gamvend
No, there's about 8 inches from the wall. It does sound like when it shuts down that it's seizing upSent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
AZVendor
Any time the machine is calling for cooling, whether the compressor is running or not, the condenser fan should be running. Feel for airflow out the back of the cabinet. If there is none or barely any airflow then you have a bad motor or clogged condenser. The noise you describe though, especially if you can tell that the condenser fan is running, means you could have a bad compressor that's locking up. However, the large amount of heat you're also describing could very well mean that you have a bad fan motor that is just putting out heat and not turning the fan blade. In that case you will be glad you only need to change the fan motor as the compressor for one of those approaches $600-800 to replace. If you need a fan motor for it you can email me at rbepic4gatgmaildotcom.
AZVendor
Also, the dimming lights point to a bad compressor. Again, if there is no airflow out the back but you can see the fan is running then you have a clogged condenser that can cause the compressor to overheat. The only way to clean the condenser is to blow it out from the back of the machine (against the direction of air flow). This requires a high pressure air hose and will create the largest dust cloud you've ever seen. I use a CO2 cylinder for these types of jobs and wet towels draped over the compressor to try to catch most of the dirt.
Gamvend
If the condenser fan stops or isn't blowing will the compressor overheat and shutdown?Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
