Vending rookie

Recommended Posts

I copied my post from the introduction section so that it would babe in the correct section.

Hi folks.  New to vending.  Bought a DN501e for 300 bucks a few months ago, cleaned it up and installed a new lock.  Placed it at work and it's making about 40 bucks a week.  Currently have another location to place once I find a suitable machine that I can afford.

I bought a vendo v407 on a whim for 80 bucks figuring it was worth double that in parts if I couldn't fix it.   It gets cold but was wouldn't take coins.  It was missing a vend motor.  I bypassed the switch, still nothing.  I figured out that 2 of the cam switches are bad.  after I bypassed them, she's taking money and everything seems to be working (except for the bypassed columns)

I know I need 1 vend motor, but can I buy just the microswitches?  or do I have to buy the whole motor assembly.

Switch part number 2TMT863C-4

Thanks for the input guys.  And thanks for having me.

Since you're new in vending (and maybe even if you weren't) I would suggest staying away from machines that are in need of repair.  As you move forward you will encounter problems from time to time, and this forum is a great resource.  It will serve you well to augment it with other sources, and to try to develop a network.

As for what you have now:  the 501e seems to be working for you, and it's a very good start.  You might want to stick with Dixie Narco machines for at least a while, for a number of reasons.  You know how it works, you will learn common problems and the solutions to them, plus interchangeable parts as you get bigger.

For the Vendo:  Well, I wouldn't be bypassing any switches;  I mean, if you're going to do this please do it right.  We all want this industry to be viewed favorably, not as one that is held together by luck and tape or whatever.

It sounds like you are handy with fixing machines though, and that will be a huge plus for you.  I would stick with less challenging machine problems from the get-go and focus on obtaining quality accounts and giving quality service.  You will generally get what you pay for when buying vending machines.

I understand your concrens, I was told that this machine was a 276, but after I drove to get it, it was a vendo.  For the 80.00 price tag, I figured it was worth a gamble, and if nothing else a learning experience.

As for bypassing the switches, only  did that in my yard to test that the rest of the machine functioned.  I have no intentions of placing it that way.  I don't doubt that some people would though.  Lol

Are you in KY? Just saw an ad for a v407 that was listed with similar issues.

I am.  Yep, that was me.  Small world.
