MidStateVending
I replaced the old metal bill validator in a National Vendors 146 snack machine, with a Mars VN2511 U3. Upon inserting a bill, the machine does not display the $1.00 credit. I called the business I purchased from and they said I need to turn on either the #7 or #8 switches. (No help there) Why is the new bill validator not communicating 1.00 dollar to the machine? (I tried re-connecting the old metal bill validator and forced it to accept a dollar bill and it communicates 1.00 to the machine... so I know all the wiring is connected correctly) (also the trc 6000 coin mech works fine)
cvending
Make sure both harnesses are secure in place. I believe that with a 146 you need to turn switch 7 off and 8 on.
CajunCandy
It could also be the coin mech!
AngryChris
I have had problems with this installation before as well. There are a few things to consider. One, did you use a conversion harness that connects to the old MAKA harness? If so, you should be okay I think. Secondly, did you mess with settings 7 and 8? I usually turn 7 on with 8 off and try it.. then 8 on with 7 off... and I think having 7 and 8 off is a separate setting. I believe the last time I did it (which was literally like 2 weeks ago), I had 8 on and 7 off. Try testing it before you mount it because it's difficult to mess with everything while constantly mounting/unmounting.
Vendors Tech
I checked my notes, switches 7 & 8 both need to be "on" for it to give credit. There is nothing wrong with the bill validator, you just have to mess with the settings to get a newer validator to interface properly with those old machines. The coin mech would not be affecting this problem either.
MidStateVending
Number 8 worked! Number 7 did not. Also, I made the mistake of leaving all other switches off so I had to mess with those too.
Vendors Tech
So you ended up with switch 8 on, and 7 off?
AngryChris
I believe 8 on and 7 off was how it worked on my machine as well. Mind you, I used the maka to mars conversion harness. Also, if I remember correctly, having 7 on and 8 on doesn't do anything. It's either 7 on with 8 off, or 8 on with 7 off, or 7 and 8 both off is auto-select. Vendors Tech
Hmm. The last time I did it, I turned both 7 & 8 on, and made sure to make a note of it as I was tired of never remembering. 7 & 8 both off is long pulse. Both on is auto select I think, which is why it may work. I don't remember what harness is in the upgrade kit I use though; it may be one that replaces that MAKA harness totally. I hate the control board in those, so hard to use and program. I almost always talk people into upgrading to the UCB or an InOne board.
MidStateVending
Yes... with 7 ON it would not even take the bill. I have not tried both 7 and 8 yet... but if it ain't broke... 8 works just fine.
AngryChris
I have a 2500 in my hand and 7+8 both on doesn't produce anything. 7 on is short pulse, 8 on is credit line, and 7+8 OFF is long pulse.
AngryChris
PS. I think having 7+8 both on just enables the short pulse and credit line is disabled. In much the same way, six is afraid of seven because seven eight nine.
MidStateVending
Boom-boom-ching! Nice. Btw, what is a long vs. Short pulse?
AngryChris
Just different protocols I guess... Today, modern machines use MDB but they used either credit lines or pulses back in the day. I always get it mixed up but I think single-price soda machines often used credit lines while snack machines (with control boards) often used pulses. I guess everyone had their own idea of how to make things communicate.
