Chard
What are some good led lighting options for dixie 501e's and Vendo 721's. Besides vendors exchange what is there? Sent from my SM-T350 using Tapatalk

Chard
Ok. Another LED question. I've bought quite a few 24" LED Direct Replacement bulbs for machines at Menard's. Simple plug and play. Works great every time. I just bought similiar bulbs from a different manufacturer at Lowes, plug them in and it doesn't work. These are for use in AP 112, 113's. I'm guessing it is the starter, however, on the box it says it needs an electronic ballast. I don't think the AP's have a ballast. Am I mistaken? Could someone explain the difference between the ballast and the starter? I ask since the guys from Lowes told me a flourecent bulb always has a ballast, however, I've never seen a ballast in these machines, only in pop machines. AngryChris
Someone needs to correct me if I am wrong, but every machine with a fluourescent bulb has a ballast. I'm not sure if soda machines have starters but every snack machine I work on has a starter when they are FL bulbs. To my knowledge, the ballast is what gives the bulb power, whereas the starter simply gives it a jolt of electricity to start it (as the name implies). Once the starter gets the bulb going, it is no longer needed to keep it running, but the ballast MUST work. If either the starter or the ballast aren't working, then your bulb won't work on a FL bulb. On the other hand, not all LED lights need a ballast and some might need different ballasts. Don't ask me about that, but your best bet is to verify with the manufacturer of the bulb as to what kind of ballast you need. I believe some LED lights are wired directly to the power, bypassing the ballast completely, some use the existing ballast, and some need their own ballast. Again, this is totally out of my field of knowledge and I am only telling you what I understand. The starter and ballast are different components though and the ballast is usually rectangular shaped and definitely doesn't look like the starter. You can find it if you trace the wires from the bulb to the board. It might be mounted somewhere in the cabinet or on the door somewhere.

Your LCM,110,120 and Studio series are located in the top left of the cabinet. You remove the panel with a Phillips screwdriver to access it. The 6000/7000 is down on the bottom of the machine behind the junction box. All of these have a magnetic ballast. We replaced all our snack vendors with LED. I have a really good source on LED and had ours custom made with internal power supply and ballast compatible for all magnetic ballast. The newer machines all have electronic ballast and will have to be bypassed with these particular tubes we had made. Final cost on each tube for the 4 wides and 5 wides was cheap like about 10 bucks. I had to buy bulk to get this price but well worth it in the long run. We sourced a few different outfits before landing this one in particular as the quality sucked with the others. Haven't needed to replace a light in a looong time.
AZVendor
The light ballast for 110 series machines is also behind a panel to the left of the top shelf. A single screw holds the panel in place. If the LED bulb does require an electronic ballast then just replace the magnetic one there and remove the starter because it won't be useful with the LED bulb. Chard
Ok. I went and bought the feit electric bulbs from menards and they work perfect without changing the ballast or starter!Sent from my SM-T350 using Tapatalk
