Dex communication. ap932

Recommended Posts

hi all,. just installed a credit processor on my AP 932 machine.  it works, but when I plug in Dex cord in order to Dex information to my VMS, I am getting error message, "Dex communication in progress".  and the machine is not functional for cash or cards.  when I take plug out, it works.    all my other models have the cord in order to send Dex.   what do I need to do on this model to get rid of that message and have the machine function with the cord in?  thanks!

Just let it play out. Some A/P machines will start dumping DEX when it senses a connection. Power down the machine, plug in your DEX lead, then power up. I have 30 of these on USAT telemetry and they work fine.

So we saw the message pop up yesterday and when we got back to the machine this AM, it was still on.......can't take that long to cycle?   I powered down and on but not sure if i had the Dex cord in or out.....

If I still see that message is there a way to get rid of it....i am using a vend screen on this machine...

Thanks!

As AZ suggested, check your firmware version. It should be 20 or higher. You may need to contact USAT about settings in the reader. The VendScreen units are squirrely. I'm glad I only have 30 of them, but none on this type of machine.

Am I checking the firmware on the machine or the vend screen?

Also what is the EPROM on the logic board?   Do you have a link where I can purchase one?

Does this seem like a issue with the VS or the machine?

Thanks all

Firmware on the machine. It is on the logic board near the center. It is a square flash chip (not a traditional EPROM). You can purchase these from D&S Vending in Cleveland. If this VendScreen unit is not new, you would be well advised to have it checked for proper upgrades & configuration settings. The fact that it's designed to be interactive makes the set up critical to how it functions.

As an after thought, go to menu item 34 (mode 34) and make sure "speech" is turned off.

Back to this.....I tried to power down and plug in cord, as suggested but still receive the message DEX COMMUNICATION IN PROGRESS.

Is it more likely that this is a issue with the machine (EPROM)?  or the vendscreen unit?    It seems like a odd thing for the machine to be having problems with, if everything else works fine.   Would the EPROM affect anything else if there was a problem with it?   Or are there setting that vendscreen/usa tech may need to set that can cause this?  Or could it be a problem with the vendscreen unit itself?

Attached is pic of the board.   Is the piece in question visible or I have to take the cover off?

Thanks,
Rob

When you press the door switch you should see a message "motors being scanned".

Under that will be a series of letters and numbers:  "P" followed by 2 digits then "L" followed by 2 digits, a dot (.), then 2 more digits. That is your software version.

Here is a hint: If you automatically go into service mode when you open the door, you are version 16 or higher. There is also the possibility that you don't see the "motor scan" message. Let me know what happens and we can take it from there.

I am not sure I will be by the machine today and will check later the version.   However, I do see the motor message scanned message .   and i am pretty sure i go into service mode when door is opened.    could this be the vendscreen unit???   thanks!
