DenVend
Cannot get around a compressor fan issue and could really use some guidance. Here's a quick course of events: Compressor fan stopped working, though compressor continued to run >> Replaced entire fan/motor assembly >> Fan still does not turn on >> Replaced overload >> Fan still does not turn on >> Check voltage from power cord that runs from main wiring harness to the compressor relay/overload >> Fan still does not turn on When main power is plugged in everything powers on EXCEPT the compressor fan, including the compressor. What am I missing here? Could it be the thermostat? Or the relay? If it's the relay, then why is the compressor powering on? Thanks in advance. lacanteen
You probably have the unit with a low pressure switch that has gone bad. Cut the 2 wires from this switch that is soldered in the refrigeration line and connect to each other bypassing the switch.
Technivend
Failing that, make sure the fan is wired to the input on the relay/overload. I have seen them accidentally wired with the capacitor circuit which is wrong.
CajunCandy
As per lacanteen, I've done the same thing by passing the switch and no problem with cooling deck.
AZVendor
If you have a low pressure switch then you have one of the horrible Danfoss POS that DN has imported from Europe. They are too cheap to build their own units any longer.
DenVend
Thanks much! Unfortunately I have another question: Where is the low-pressure switch on the machine? Thanks again.
lacanteen
just look at the copper lines on the refrigeration unit. Where you see 2 wires going onto it, that's the switch soldered into the system.
DenVend
Still no joy. I don't think this machine has a low pressure switch, unless I'm completely looking in the wrong area. Could it possibly be the relay that's faulty? Really stumped.
AngryChris
At this point, I think your best option would be to run a multimeter to every possible electrical connection to see if everything has continuity. Have you checked to see if the fan actually spins? Virtually any slight breeze should make it spin. It has to be an electrical component, assuming the fan is definitely good. Maybe hooking it up to a small battery (is that possible?) to see if the fan spins at all will tell you if the fan is good or not. My best guess is that the fan is getting no power, which means a single wire is disconnected or connected to the wrong thing somehow. I haven't changed a condenser fan on any typical machines yet, only USI machines. Double and triple check the wired connections, and make sure there is absolutely no obstruction blocking the fan from spinning. If you can easily spin it with your finger, then you know it isn't obstructed.
Technivend
It is a simple circuit. If the compressor is on the fan should be spinning. Verify that the fan works with 110v supplied to it. Verify that the fan is wired to the 110v supply to the compressor. There really isn't much more to it.
Technivend
Failing to find an edit button. Here is a screenshot of a wiring diagram from a Dixie manual. As basic as it gets. If one works so should the other.
