I'm not using pistachios in any machines but did like to eat them. Like you Blue - not any more. I got food posioning once and never again!

Thanks for giving us a heads up on this as I sure didn't know it.

My wife heard a news story this morning about a salmonella scare involving pistachios.  So.....I am sure that will impact anyone who has them in their machines.  I think I have them in 4 locations myself.

Just another reason to not sell nuts! An old time vendor once told me, "You have to be nuts to vend nuts"! Just not worth the trouble.

I would lose a lot of revenue and attraction to my machines if I stopped vending cashews. Only nut I vend but worth the trouble. Stopped pistachio long ago as people complained about the size of the vend.

I hear ya Jim. It's just a shame that the two best seliings food products (MMP and Cashews) are also the most expensive and least profitable. I could see cashews selling well in bars and industrial break rooms. I just don't want to mess with them.

There is a another vendor here that has 100 Uturns and vends nuts in almost all of them. In fact, I sold a "nuts-only" location to him since the mananger only wanted "healthy" stuff. So there is some money in those nuts, I just don't want the potential troubles they can cause.

Maybe at 50 cents, it could be good for some vendors.

I sell pistachios and cashews for 50 cents. Salted peanuts for 25 cents.

Johnny,

What machine and mech are you using for the 50 cent vends on your cashews and pistachios?

Anyone selling dry roasted peanuts? I would think that they are not as messy but probably not as popular. If you only offered that one nut product, I wonder if people would buy them even if that is not their first choice of nut products.

Jax - Nine years and never sold a nut!

I make about the same on mmp and cashews; 100% markup less my gas and the $2 an hour I pay myself:D. I know its not the best but the customers want it and it adds flava to my machine:cool:. Until I can implement my business model change I guess there is not much you can do. I just hope I'm still pumping blood by the time I change over to a new strategy.

It seems that Sunkist pistachios should be okay, right? I checked the bag and it's not the same processor. I don't have them in my machines but I have a bag at home that I've been snacking on.

Here is some great info for those currently vending Pistachios...

The CAL-PURE co-op of California pistachio growers and the Western Pistachio Association have created a consumer Website to list the brands reported as not containing any pistachio products from Setton Pistachio of Terra Bella, Inc, which has initiated a voluntary recall of pistachios due to potential contamination with the Salmonella organism.

Here is the website...
