Medford Jeff Posted April 1, 2009 Posted April 1, 2009 I just stopped back by a local Dairy Queen that I had visited yesterday to speak with the owner about placing one of my triples there. The good news is, he said YES. I just about passed out. Then he said, we don't want any candy or gum in it, just toys. Then I thought, oh CRAP. Of course, I said "No problem. I need to order in some more toys, but I will be back to place the machine soon. " So, other than 27mm bouncy balls, what should I consider vending out of my 1800's that are not food? If there are enough options, I will build a rack with two 1800's for a total of 6 heads. Hopefully someday I can bring him around to letting me vend candy and/or gum. Also, where is the best place to buy 1" capsules? How much should I be spending on these? Thanks! Jeff
lurtsman Posted April 1, 2009 Posted April 1, 2009 I got mine from A&A. I recommend the blockheadz and glowsticks. Could be vended from a seaga gumball wheel by taking out the riser. I do not have experience with 1800s.
nam Posted April 1, 2009 Posted April 1, 2009 Brand has the largest selling product in a 1" capsules in history with over 30 million sold. That product is "Zoo Mania". These are collectable little zoo animals that the kids just love and will keep trying to get the ones they don't have. Repeat business! They also have "Sea Mania", rings and stickies as well as tattoos in caps to name a few others. Here is their website http://www.brandvendingproducts.com and ask for Craig. Tell him you want to hear the joke of the day. He's full of them. They no longer sell acorns so everything is in round caps like you need. Anyway, if you want to know you're going to have great selling product why guess? It's a fact "Zoo Mania" is the best selling 1" cap. Now the problem is if you call you may not be able to get those immediately like you're wanting as they are selling so fast they can't keep them in stock. If they don't have them in stock then order "Sea Mania" and some rings or stickies to get you by until you can get your order for the "Zoo Mania" Check out this link to a thread here in the forum on 1800vending machines being used as racks to vend caps with toys, etc. This would be a great way to expand in the Dairy Queen with mult. machines and no candy. Gary's idea for these machines is fantastic - check out the pictures! http://www.vendiscuss.com/forums/view_topic.php?id=1311&forum_id=1&highlight=1800+rack
dperry Posted April 1, 2009 Posted April 1, 2009 You may have to be certain to buy the 1" round caps. They are gumball sized and the 1800's may only vend gumballs and not caps. The acorn caps may not vend out of a 1800 gumball wheel like they do out of oaks.
ginger vend Posted April 2, 2009 Posted April 2, 2009 actionmatic in canada also has several items to choose from in round caps (and good prices), I buy all my caps from either actionmatic or brand.
Medford Jeff Posted April 2, 2009 Author Posted April 2, 2009 Jeff, Check the craigslist ads for Medford. nam Nam, Are you refering to the used Oak Doubles fir $75 or the new Doubles for $90? The "boss" will not let me buy any more machines until I get the one I have making money. If you are talking about something else I missed, please give me a hint. Jeff
nam Posted April 2, 2009 Posted April 2, 2009 Jeff, I was referring to the ads posted here in the Shop and Swap area of our forum. Just a couple ads in your area that I put up. Actually, not much in your area without driving a pretty good distance. Buying machines is just part of the cost of doing business. Pretty hard to make money in vending without machines. The main thing I'd try to explain to the boss is even under the worst results you could sell the machines and get your money right back. That is if you buy them used and not new. I posted a Spiral in Medford for $70 and know you could sell it for $100 or more if you wanted to throw in the towel later. You could probably put that in the DQ and fill it with a mix of 1" caps with various things in them as well as rubber balls. Give the kids some variety and keep them trying for whatever they can get next. It will have the 850 gumball wheel and sure it would vend your caps. The big globe would make all the mix easy for the kids to see balls, rings, and so forth and you wouldn't have to service it but every couple months. It's a big machine that would sure get the kids attention and it's cheap. The brand new doubles would also be nice especially if they have gumball wheels for them. Anyway, just trying to give you some other options without spending alot of money. If you have plenty of money and the boss doesn't care then of course there are much better machines, etc. to place. Buy a nice pretty new rack and vend all kinds of things. The 1800vending machines are available on a regular basis for 50 bucks. Again, just trying to give you the cheapest way to get started, not the best money can buy. lol nam
Medford Jeff Posted April 2, 2009 Author Posted April 2, 2009 Thanks Nam. Your insight is very appreciated. Now that you mention it, the yellow spiral would be kind of cool. Maybe I can talk her into it! Jeff
antoniocinisi Posted April 2, 2009 Posted April 2, 2009 besides the toys mentioned, lock stock and barrel does well, glow sticks and bouncy balls would be a decent combo,or try those sea/zoomania if you could wait. I talked to craig(forgot to ask about the joke of the day) within the past 2 weeks and those toys are on back order.he should be getting them soon, but probably not as soon as you want them.
Medford Jeff Posted April 2, 2009 Author Posted April 2, 2009 Yeah, well since she cooks me dinner every night, I try to stay in line. Looks like it maight be fast food for awhile!
Beer980 Posted April 2, 2009 Posted April 2, 2009 Some 1" tattoo caps might go as well. I can't get any service out of Actionmatic. I have requested a catalog several times with no results. I see things I would buy on the web site but they don't want my money for some reason.
antoniocinisi Posted April 2, 2009 Posted April 2, 2009 Some days you just gotta go around the "BOSS...Aint that right Antonio? if you can and it`s for the greater good, then you should. had I listened to my wife all the time my route would still be makeing half.
CandymachinesCom Posted April 2, 2009 Posted April 2, 2009 Our customers really like the Zoo Mania 1 & 2 as well as the Sea Mania toys however as mentioned above, we cannot keep them on the shelves. They have been using Mini Malz and Urbaneez as a replacement until the Mania toys come in. Good luck!
nepavend Posted April 2, 2009 Posted April 2, 2009 Also consider doing basic superballs and a pool ball mix of superball, they will definitely work with a gumball wheel.
Medford Jeff Posted April 2, 2009 Author Posted April 2, 2009 Thanks to everyone for the input. I am placing an order with A&A today to get started. I am starting to dig the idea of not having to worry about spoilage on these products. Toys are great!
West Coast Vend LLC Posted April 3, 2009 Posted April 3, 2009 I have a DQ here in San Diego, CA that does very, very well. I have 2 rack setups side by side with 2" capsule machines on each side. Capsules are the best thing for DQ. You are lucky he didn't demand candy because toys will do much better. If you look at my avatar you will see the picture from my DQ. Great account! Gary
dperry Posted April 4, 2009 Posted April 4, 2009 West, you need to post a bigger picture of that rack.
caserri Posted April 4, 2009 Posted April 4, 2009 West, you need to post a bigger picture of that rack. Darryl, Until he posts some pics here, you can see a larger image of Gary's setup in post #36 of this thread... http://www.vendiscuss.com/forums/view_topic.php?id=1311&forum_id=1&page=1 Steve
Medford Jeff Posted April 4, 2009 Author Posted April 4, 2009 I am planning on welding up a custom rack this weekend that will hold two 1800s side-by-side. I want it slightly lower than the stock stands are so they are down lower for the kids. I will start with that and see how it goes. I am new to this, so I want to ease into it. There is another DQ on the other end of town with a different owner. Once this rack is in place, I will see if I can get one in the other DQ. Jeff
nam Posted April 4, 2009 Posted April 4, 2009 Jeff, That sounds cool to make your own rack. Be sure to take a pic and share it with the rest of us when it's done. nam
Faith Vending Posted April 4, 2009 Posted April 4, 2009 Gary: Are you using 50-75 cent coin mechs on your 1800'? Where do you get them and how much? Thanks. Jim
