davidsurvz Posted April 6, 2009 Posted April 6, 2009 I've thought about this a few times and just figured I'd throw it our there to see what everyone thinks. We have several members in close proximity to each other. I was just wondering if enough of us were interested in doing annual Vendiscuss meetings. They could just be regional or state (even national if things ever got big enough.) People from the forum could meet at a central location (at someones home or business or rented halls, etc. some place that could hold everyone.) I am in the Charlotte NC area and I know there are several members not far from here. (People from NC and SC could meet.) I know there are several members in Southern california maybe a bunch of members could get together out there, etc., etc. Everyone could get to know each other and discuss vending strategies, ideas and trends, etc. anything that would help vendors along. We could trade everything from gumballs to equipment to ideas to whatever. I have no idea if this is realistic at all or if enough people would be interested but I just figured I'd throw it out there and see if anyone bites. It wouldn't have to be anything too formal although it could be if people wanted it to. It would just be something that could be put together through forum members in each region / area. However they wanted to do it. Once time, place and details are agreed on by members then it could be an officail Vendiscuss meeting. Just an idea. David
dperry Posted April 6, 2009 Posted April 6, 2009 Reminds me of the old BBS gatherings I used to attend in the 90's.
nam Posted April 6, 2009 Posted April 6, 2009 David, I think it would be fun and just wish we could have more get together rather than just a few. It might be pretty hard as far as the cost of traveling very far but could work as a regional thing. Where I live would be pretty hard becaue of such big distances between states with enought members to get together. You guys out east would have an easier time of it as there are alot more members closer together. nam
Quarter Master Posted April 6, 2009 Posted April 6, 2009 Sounds like somebody looking for another business tax deduction.(just kidding)
davidsurvz Posted April 6, 2009 Author Posted April 6, 2009 Sounds like somebody looking for another business tax deduction.(just kidding) LOL!
sterling Posted April 6, 2009 Posted April 6, 2009 Another idea is to find out who is going to one of the trade shows in Vegas and have Vendiscuss members meet sometime during the show.
davidsurvz Posted April 6, 2009 Author Posted April 6, 2009 How about it midwest venders? I am game. That's the spirit......I just think it would be fun and insightful and helpful if some of us could get together. Any other takers?
nepavend Posted April 7, 2009 Posted April 7, 2009 That is an excellent idea, I am on the East Coast and I know there are many people on my end of the coast.
joebob051977 Posted April 7, 2009 Posted April 7, 2009 I have to agree. It is an excellent idea. I don't have the money for anything in Vegas. I have never been to Vegas, but I have always felt that Vegas is a "cheesy" location for a trade show. I have been wanting something more local and family friendly. I could talk my wife and family into St. Louis, but not Vegas. I know this may be more than the original vision, but I would love to have several small regional trade shows. Certainly the different manufacturers would jump at the opportunity to reach more people at other trade shows.
nam Posted April 7, 2009 Posted April 7, 2009 joebob, I have the exact same feeling for Vegas. The last time we went I got so tired of the place we left at midnight and drove all the way to Utah just to get out of there. Would rather go to the dentist and have a root canal. Not my kind of town at all. lol And I hope what they have in Vegas stays in Vegas! nam
nepavend Posted April 7, 2009 Posted April 7, 2009 The best solution for us would be to break up the country into about 8 regions and hold those regional meetings. We may even be able to recruit more members by holding these meetings and having vendors there and opening ourselves up to the public a little bit. Teleconference or videoconferencing may also be ideas to check out. That way all the regions can be simulcast or something of that nature and that would be very exciting experience for all those involved. Of course I may be dreaming a little bit but no goals, no guts, no glory!

I think there are plenty of people on the forum in different areas with all kinds of skills, ideas, equipment, places to meet etc. This could get some traction if enough people get on board. David
nepavend Posted April 10, 2009 Posted April 10, 2009 Is there any more momentum behind this idea? If so, let's keep it going!!
antoniocinisi Posted April 10, 2009 Posted April 10, 2009 I`m in if we do this. I loved the Vegas idea too. how many members from the midwest?at least 4 I think, probably more
davidsurvz Posted April 10, 2009 Author Posted April 10, 2009 I know there are several of us in the Carolinas.
caserri Posted April 11, 2009 Posted April 11, 2009 I'll go anywhere for BBQ! Great idea David! Steve
davidsurvz Posted April 11, 2009 Author Posted April 11, 2009 Glad you like the idea Steve. I think we could all help each other out and get to meet people face to face. It could be as formal or as casual as everyone wants to make it.
nepavend Posted April 13, 2009 Posted April 13, 2009 I hate to be a "Homer" but Scranton, PA would be a good site for a Northeastern Regional meeting. It has great on-off access to the major Interstates and a good selection of nice hotels for reasonable rates, or we can congregate at my house for BBQ!!!
dperry Posted April 13, 2009 Posted April 13, 2009 I hafta wonder why everybody is eager to get together with their local competition to exchange ideas? Doesn't sound like something I'm terribly interested in doing. If anything, I want to eliminate my competition, not encourage it.
antoniocinisi Posted April 21, 2009 Posted April 21, 2009 So is this idea dead???dperry wrote: I hafta wonder why everybody is eager to get together with their local competition to exchange ideas? I see your point of view dperry, but if I am competeing agianst someone it might as well be someone I know, and not some a$$hole that may play dirty or not take care of his stuff. keep your friends close and your competition closer:cool: we wouldn`t have to specify where our locations are while talking shop. btw BYOB
thenwho Posted April 21, 2009 Posted April 21, 2009 Hi guys, I am new from Indonesia. This idea sounds great. It there is meeting in Las Vegas, please make a big announcement okay I would love to go. By the way, there is an event in China in June, anyone going? Thank you
antoniocinisi Posted April 21, 2009 Posted April 21, 2009 I wish I could but I don`t think I can go to China in June.
nepavend Posted April 21, 2009 Posted April 21, 2009 I don't think the idea is dead, we should keep it going and I think it would be viable. Not all vendors in business are members of this forum and there are a lot of dirty players out there, by working together we can help each other out from different parts of the country, then that way we can help and support each other through various means. I can say that I myself have benefited from other vendors on this forum through knowledge and also through purchases of used equipment and leads on cheaper and/or better product. Many of these things have been dealings with members who live in my state and one of which could be considered competition depending on where I expand my business in the next year or two. By networking with other vendors who happen to be in our area we can also decrease the chance of those same vendors from doing anything negative with our equipment should we run across them. Competition can be healthy and it will be a fact of life as long as there is capitalism.
davidsurvz Posted April 30, 2009 Author Posted April 30, 2009 I've added a pole regarding this topic to try to guage interest. Please vote...... http://www.vendiscuss.com/forums/view_topic.php?id=4800&forum_id=16&msg=1
