nam Posted April 30, 2009 Posted April 30, 2009 It has been brought to my attention that some forum members are complaining about my posts for deals on machines in the "Shop and Swap" section. As many of you probably know, I post alot of ads for machines in both the Ebay and Craigslist sections. Some members would like to have me stop posting the ads. It seems they don't feel classified ads on machines should be part of our forum. They aren't interested in buying these used machines and don't like taking the time to sort through the posts when clicking on recent posts. Steve has agreed to let me post this question to all the forum members and let you guys decide. He says he's not a dictator and to leave it up to the members. I have agreed to go by the results of the poll. I believe this forum has plenty of room for posting deals on machines without taking away from posts on how to set a candy wheel for Skittles. I think all our discussions are important. We all have alot to learn from one another here but I just can't see where my posts in the Shop and Swap section interferes with anything else in the discussion sections of this forum. My personal belief is that buying machines is a huge part of getting into and building a vending machine business. This is especially true for those that are new or trying to build their business. Those that already have alot of machines and a good size route may not care to even read the ads which is fine but should they want to stop the rest of us from having these ads available to read? If you can find machines at a lower price you can buy more machines to place and make more money. Not everyone has the money to buy all new machines. I've tried to post these ads to help those in that situation. It takes alot of time to do this. Before I started posting there weren't hardly any ads in this section. When they were posted they rarely stated where or showed pics of the machines. I take more time posting to try to make this section easier for you guys to use and find machines in your own areas and move on to another section of the forum. I've told Steve I think this is used and liked by alot of you guys. It's hard to please 100% of the people 100% of the time as is evident by those that want me to stop. I'm not wanting to start a fight here. It's much easier for me to just agree and stop posting the ads but this is up to you guys so here is the poll which I will honor one way or the other. nam
Rustinm Posted April 30, 2009 Posted April 30, 2009 Nam, I personally think its great that you post all of these ads. I just bought a large quantity of machines so im not in the market right now, but if i was i would be very appreciative about the hours of deal hunting you put in. I think that you should have your own section for posting all of these deals, call it, Nams bargin corner or something, the only thing i would change about all your hard and much appreciated work is that i wish they could be viewed by state, because i really dont care about a deal in Arizona when im in Michigan. Maybe you and the guy with the tie can work something out where you have your own spot. Thanks
cavity Posted April 30, 2009 Posted April 30, 2009 Love the bargains, don't stop. Your hard work saves everyone lots of time by just visting one great website:D. If someone is not interested in the deals they can by-pass your posts. I have bought some items from your posts that I wouldn't have known about. Thanks.
MrEen Posted April 30, 2009 Posted April 30, 2009 I really can't understand having an issue with your posts. When I click on Most Recent Posts, I can see which section was posted to for each one. If I'm not interested in certain sections I can skip them. Better yet, I could go into the sections I don't care about first and click on Mark Forum Read before clicking on Most Recent Posts so the stuff I don't care about doesn't even look like something new. I have viewed every single post in the first three sections of Swap and Shop every time I have been on the forum. I know that almost all of the Craigslist deals will be impossible for me, but it helps me know the going rate if/when I find any deals near me. I've noticed I'm in the minority in this regard as I see so many posts with single digit page views (I just assumed most people are too busy to look at the deals that they know they can't or won't take advantage of due to location, price or machine,) but I think it's a wonderful resource that I have not seen on the other two vending forums I have been a part of in the past. I've posted a handful of deals myself that I thought were great (or at least very fair) deals because I felt like this was a good way to give something back to the community as a whole that has shared such a tremendous amount of knowledge. I'm new to bulk. I can't help with mech issues. In fact, I can't help with pretty much anything bulk related except to pass along any deals I find that I can't take advantage of. I think it would be a shame to lose this part of the forum! But, like nam, I will respect the decision that follows this poll. Scott
seemore1 Posted May 1, 2009 Posted May 1, 2009 I love to see if the deals are close enough to me to bother with. Keep up the good work Nam.
ROGERS VENDING Posted May 1, 2009 Posted May 1, 2009 My friend, I agree with the above posters, I don't see where there is any problem. Although I've yet to find a deal worth purchasing, I do appreciate what you do for the community and myself. At some point, you're going to find me a great deal that I may otherwise not have found myself. You're an asset to this forum and this community. Cheers, Jesse
bacho Posted May 1, 2009 Posted May 1, 2009 Oh brother! Is this really an issue?? Ditto nam, if you got the time, go for it. I appreciate you doing this, as I don't have time to do all the research you do.
reel Posted May 1, 2009 Posted May 1, 2009 Nam, i differ from the other posts here, i wish you would stop ...........im sick and tired of seeing all these incredibly cheap deals you post and im stuck here on the other side of the world in Brisbane, Australia and cannot take advantage of them lol. Do you know how darn frustrating it is, if i was in the states i probably would have 10 storage sheds full of machines already lol.

Thanks I have taken advantage of 2 deals nam has posted and am glad he posts the ads,but it would be helpful if somehow the deals wouldn`t come up when clicking the new topics button. I also like the ring of Nams bargain corner!! guy with the tie roflmao!!!
pdavid Posted May 1, 2009 Posted May 1, 2009 keep them up, it's hard to make money at this business if you don't buy used.
nepavend Posted May 1, 2009 Posted May 1, 2009 First things first, Nam... POTD. I have been since the beginning one of the foremost documented supporters of your work. I have benefited several times from deals you posted here, and have posted the results of those deals, and I would have almost definitely not found any of them without you! Nam's Bargain Basement definitely has merit on this site, and for the benefit of our businesses at large. Therefore, I of course voted for the posts to stay. The market for new and used machines is one of our biggest discussions overall on this forum. We get several people a week asking for advice on new/used equipment deals, buying existing routes, business valuation, etc. We also post the websites of most companies where members can purchase their equipment new if they so choose and have catalogs of those companies regularly uploaded. Having exposure to deals with are good, deals which are great, and deals which are not so good is essential to help us as business owners to make better informed decisions when we are presented with deals in our daily lives. In the end, knowledge is power, whether we choose to use it or not is our individual decision. Granted, there are always going to be people with differing opinions, that is why we are an open forum. I did consider the opinion of people such as our friend in Australia, where unfortunately there are not as many (if any) deals posted there on Craigslist and/or Ebay. There may be other channels there that may need to be checked out to see if there is any used machine markets there. I certainly understand his position but with all sites we must cater to as many members as possible in order to survive and to thrive, and at this time unfortunately there are many more members in North America than in Australia. It also seems that the objection is coming from those who view recent posts in a certain way, and for this I would suggest that a few other "tutorial" type threads be posted to help members navigate the site in alternative ways so they can bypass some sections that may not apply to them or they may not even want to see. There are a few things I would like to see modified with the area. I agree with other posters that having it sectioned off would be good, but regionally would be better so you dont end up with sections for every state and country, and only a handful of posts in each. Maybe split the USA into 8 or so regions on a colored map and do the same for Canada, Mexico, etc. I apologize for the long post, but I do feel strongly about this and hope that Nam's Bargain Basement is here to stay!

sbishop Posted May 1, 2009 Posted May 1, 2009 I think it is a great service to the members. Some of us are looking to expand and some of us would expand if the right deal cam along Keep up the good work
BruceRehm Posted May 1, 2009 Posted May 1, 2009 I am new so I really think these postings for ebay and craigslist are great. Like all post, if I don't like the subject, I don't read it. Keep up the Great Work. Bruce
lurtsman Posted May 1, 2009 Posted May 1, 2009 I come to the forums at least 6 days a week. I probably average 20 visits per week. My book mark is set to swap and shop. For me the primary reason to hit up the site is to see what's new in the for sale section. I have bought two racks and a spiral that nam alerted me to, totalling 22 machines. My business would not be what it is today without Nam's help locating great deals. If I had the money, I'd have over 100 machines from Nam's machine finding. I'm voting emphatically YES he should continue, and hitting POTD for good measure.
Beer980 Posted May 1, 2009 Posted May 1, 2009 I usually check it everyday and I am not in the market for any more machines at this time. I do it for several reasons. One is out of respect for the time nam puts into that section for the group. Another is to keep abreast of current market prices and finally on the odd chance I can find something I did not know I wanted to buy at this time.
reel Posted May 1, 2009 Posted May 1, 2009 Perhap after reading a post from nepavend here i should explain, and clarify that the post i made saying i disagreed with the majority on here and i wished nam would stop posting such great deals ..............was meant as a joke and nothing else. i also knew when i posted the comment that being the great guy that nam is that he would take it in the manner in which it was meant, which he did. nam is one of the best guys in this forum and we have corresponded numerous times privately and will continue to do so into the future. the deals posted here by nam are sensational but where i reside i cannot take advantage of them............ thats what i meant by frustration, i wasnt being serious at all.
MrEen Posted May 1, 2009 Posted May 1, 2009 Ok, we accept your apology and have canceled the contract we had put out on you.
arg5163 Posted May 2, 2009 Posted May 2, 2009 Nam, The only reason I visit this site everyday is to see what new great deals you've found for the day! Because of you, I've gotten a number of steals on very expensive machines!
BudLeiser Posted May 2, 2009 Posted May 2, 2009 I thought this was NamDiscuss.com Seriously though, its his posts that make me check here everyday. Although if people are complaining he could combine multiple posts into regional posts Southeast North East Mid West West Other Whereas right now if you click recent posts you might see 4 different threads, all for deals in FL, then 2 more for GA, 80 for IL (I forget if its actually IL but somewhere is getting the lions share)
antoniocinisi Posted May 2, 2009 Posted May 2, 2009 it seems the majority of us likes and apreciates what nam does. could the guy with the tie make it other new topics don`t get buried on days nam finds many good deals?
lurtsman Posted May 2, 2009 Posted May 2, 2009 I usually check it everyday and I am not in the market for any more machines at this time. I do it for several reasons. One is out of respect for the time nam puts into that section for the group. Another is to keep abreast of current market prices and finally on the odd chance I can find something I did not know I wanted to buy at this time.Exactly. I was already borrowing from my savings to get more machines, and I'm still checking to see if Nam found something new near me I just HAVE to have. (I'm planning to buy the red two product spiral thing, which is just too cool to pass up, though I haven't figured out how I'll get it back...) I've almost got my savings paid back, when I get my two heads being shipped here so I can update the pizza ranch, that pull will put me back in the positive. I'm watching like a hawk for each new deal Nam puts up so I can organize a huge trip to gather machines.I LOVE shopping for assets. Toys that put money into my pocket are the funnest thing I've ever shopped for. Reading the classifieds section is like looking through a magazine where all the products GIVE YOU money. It's a strange feeling to be searching for new things to buy so I can have more money instead of less. I have an opportunity to see all kinds of new machines I had never heard of, and I have a friend in Oregon I'm trying to convince to buy a couple machines. When I check for machines near Iowa, I'm also checking for things near him. rnwahlen, your joke was pretty clear to read. I could tell you were being sarcastic as a way to show your appreciation of Nam. If we had a Nam in australia, you know we'd be happy to share him
reel Posted May 2, 2009 Posted May 2, 2009 thanks lurtsman i appreciate your comment, as i too thought it was rather clear and easy to read also. i sure wish we had a nam here, the only problem is there wouldnt be any good deals worth reporting lol.
