Agapevending Posted May 5, 2009 Posted May 5, 2009 I need to get my machines out. But I'm afarid I'll fail. Any ideas how to over come that
chris in md Posted May 5, 2009 Posted May 5, 2009 You won't know till you start walking into businesses and asking. People saying "no" is part of vending, but it isn't a failure. If you need ideas of what to say, Bob Butler has a good script posted on his website, here -- http://www.themainpage.com/Vending/Spiel-or-Sales%20Pitch.htm I hear there are other sample scripts in the members plus section of the forum, so get your 20 posts so you can get your access! - chris
Faith Vending Posted May 6, 2009 Posted May 6, 2009 You will make mistakes at the start but remember you know way more than your client; use a script to practise but don't sound too canned. I always like to wing it with the high points of why this is a win-win. You might have 60-90 seconds to make a positive impressionl; people will do business with people they like so you are selling yourself as well. Learn from all your mistakes and know you will get better with time. Just be yourself and know your product and what you want to accomplish on each visit. Visualize where your machine or rack could go. Maybe don't give your pitch the first time, just scope the place out to see if its a location that would work. You will run into many "gatekeepers"; don't leave anything with them or let them go give your pitch to the decision maker. Get names, make an appointment if necessary. There are many good ideas on this forum. Last thing: you will experience a great deal of rejection, if you cannot handle it, hire someone to locate for you. Be persistent and don't give up. Good luck!
dapreachaman Posted May 6, 2009 Posted May 6, 2009 You will probably fail at locating more than once, but when someone says yes you will be hooked. We can get several no's before we get a yes, and then all of a sudden you start having the yeses come in bunches. Remember locating is a numbers game, the more places you go the more times you present the more people you see the more opportunities you will have to find yeses. Others will confirm the first yes is amazing. It motivates. Let me encourage you, go for it don't quit and keep a positive attitude. A positive attitude will make the sale more often than not. If you keep believing you are going to do it this time you have a better chance. Once you build that trust and service with someone they will start finding you locations. Today two locations gave me three new locations. They are selling me to others. It is cool and fun. sorry to ramble
Johnny Ringo Posted May 6, 2009 Posted May 6, 2009 This is a great thread. I'm looking at finding full line locations, but the same idea of accepting "No's" as part of the game will still translate, I'm sure. I'm a bit nervous about going out and finding locations, too. I have lots of experience in sales (inside and out) and I am currently in a sales position now. You have to have thick skin and not take anything personally. The industry for the sales I'm in now sees even the top performing agents failing to get a "Yes" 70% of the time. Then the 30% that give a "Yes" don't always follow through and add to your paycheck. That means out of 10 clients, seven will give you a solid "No" and you might get paid on maybe one or two of the three that said "Yes". You just have to keep reminding yourself that it's not personal. Some people are into what you are saying and some people are not. You gotta just keep showing up. There are good streaks and horrid, demeaning bad streaks. As long as you stay confident, there is always another great opportunity around the corner. You just have to stay confident and actually "show up" and be ready for the opportunities when they come. Again, I'm new to vending and haven't even attempted to find a location or even bought a machine yet. I'm doing my due diligence, but anticipate these same ideas of sales to be similar when finding locations.
vendingdelaltiplano Posted May 7, 2009 Posted May 7, 2009 This seems a motivational section. Thanks guys. I still remember the first time I went out to locate my machines, I was afraid of getting negative answers, but as you say, that´s part of the game. Facing rejections is one of the ways to improve our skills in the vending business. Fortunately, now I can handle with the "yes" or "no" answers of the locators. As Donald Trump says, we should never, never, never give up of what we want.
sbishop Posted May 8, 2009 Posted May 8, 2009 take a full color pitcure of the machine filled. get to tthe right person. Ask them to try it out for a month, if you are not happy we will remove it. Have the mahine in the vechile and place it right there. every no gets you closer to a yes. it is a numbers game. You are offering a service fro their employees and customers I don't have any machines out yet, but that is exactly what I am planning on doing! I'm wondering about if they don't like the product I bring with, but that's something to deal with that day, not today.
the buzzing Posted May 16, 2009 Posted May 16, 2009 Agapevending, Curious how the placing went? Was it as scary as you thought? What is the product you're vending?
statik27 Posted May 21, 2009 Posted May 21, 2009 Not to hijack the thread, but I'm a newb and I just started placing my machines this week. I got a few locations from a locator and have placed two myself. The thing that I've noticed, is that if you take the machine with you, your more likely not going to want to take it home. I had a rejection from one of my bought locations (Lady thought it was going to be a donation box) and I got back in my car and saw the machine in the back seat. I drove straight to a busy screen printing place that I know of and had the machine accepted and placed myself in about 5mins. My advice, start by going to places where your a familiar face. You don't have to be on a first name basis, but if they recognize you as a customer, their likely to at least hear you out. Statik
the buzzing Posted May 21, 2009 Posted May 21, 2009 Statik, Well Said, much better then dropping large chips on "I can't approve that thing..." Statik are you using a charity or commission?
Agapevending Posted May 21, 2009 Author Posted May 21, 2009 I guess I'll put this out, I have been asked how placing is going. I have not done it yet. And this is the Reason why. I have not figured out how to put them in location once located with my 14mo old son toddling along behind. So I'm thinking of waiting until school is out so my wife can take care of him. Then i can get them out. Now I do service them with him. and that is okay. Matthew Agapevending
dapreachaman Posted May 21, 2009 Posted May 21, 2009 i have allowed my kids to help me in locating. My kids are 13 and 11 now and they have each gotten me two locations that i split the money with them. They have researched the locations and then did the presentations. it has actually worked quite well when i introduce them and explain we are working as a team and they are learning the business. younger kids would be a problem as they can't help much and require you to watch and keep them near.
statik27 Posted May 23, 2009 Posted May 23, 2009 I'm currently using a charity for the locator. But I think it's easier to sell a location myself with the comission. statik27
