I had one of my locations call me up yesterday and tell me to come get my machine. I asked them what was wrong, and they said nothing with you, that they were closing the doors in a few days and were tying up loose ends. I can't believe how many people are losing their jobs right now. My father was forced to retire, and many of his friends have just been let go. I was bummed about the location, cause it was a pretty good one, but I am more bummed that the 200 people that worked there are unemployed now. I hope the best for them and everyone else out there that are having trouble right now.

The situation stinks for many Americans. Hopefully they are able to find new work elsewhere. It's terrible to see it in my local economy, especially as I still need a day job.

I have seen a few places close as well. But all of my locations that are still open my machines sales are up year over year. Im boggled

We have been in a depression for a year now so we just slog thru it; it sucks that the places where you are asked to get your machine out, for whatever reason, are your big producers.

Like I said, Michigan has lead the nation in the recession/depression. We are coping and doing our best and there is a light at the end of the tunnel. We will experience more pain in the short term. Cut expenses, work smart and have fun (praying a lot helps too:D).

Well at least this business owner cared enough to call you ahead of time. Many times, they will just close their doors and leave your machines locked inside. Sometimes they only call 1 day or even a few hours before they are about to close and expect you to rush right down and get your stuff. Other times, they (or the contractors, movers, cleaners) will just take your stuff.

Hey Faith vending, Im not positive on the numbers but i think our current unemployment rate here in Michigan is right around 20%! I think that is crazy! Again dont quote me on that number but im pretty sure its right around there. I myself am unemployed, I worked at a shop for 3 years that made automotive parts, now im not sure if they are even in business anymore.

Glad I got out of car sales 2 years ago. I may not like my boss right now, but I like having an income. Now I just need my business investments to pan out. such as this box of 850 gumballs ;)

The thing that worries me the most when it comes to vending is the inflation that awaits us once the economy starts to catch gear.

JPVendCo,

Look on the bright side here; you at least got a call to collect your machine. As stated many times before, owners don't have time to contact you and keep your property! The economy sux but at least you're not out the cost of your machine and product too...200 people tossed to the side-lines is sad! Just one more reason to find a new killer location.

it apears the economy is not gonna get better soon.gm and chrysler closing lots of dealerships means lots of unemployed people.

you were lucky to get the call, most just close shop and take the machine or leave it locked inside the store.

Anyone ever consider getting tracking devices for their larger racks and just leaving it inside one of the larger machines (like inside a super 80), when the place is closed you could figure out where the machine is, and hopefully call the police to "protect you" while you picked up your items. (similar to calling them in a domestic dispute to take items out of an insane ex-partner's house/living situation)

lurtsman,

You can buy stickers to place on your machines that say they are equipment with satelite tracking devices. Check ebay for ATM machines and scroll through the ads. You'll come up with something on these warning stickers. The cost of really doing it would no doubt be expensive. Hopefully the perception of a tracking device might prevent a potential theft.
