nam Posted May 9, 2009 Posted May 9, 2009 I realize that for what ever reason there are a few people that do not like the deals I have been posting on craigslist and ebay. These ads are posted in good faith with the intention of helping other members find good deals on equipment and make more money. I take a great deal of time searching through the ads trying to find what I think would be an ad for machines someone would be interested in. To make this process faster and easier I have also tried to make scanning through those ads as fast and easy as possible. My ads have almost alwasy had the location so you can see right away where they are. Often if it is a big city like Tampa or Denver and that's all I put for the location assuming most people know where those cities are anyway. If it is Beaver Dam then I'm going to include the state so people will be able again to immediately see that it's in Wisconsin! I've also taken a great deal of time posting the pictures of the machines if there is one in the ad. The idea of course is too allow members to scroll through very quickly and see if there are ads in their area and just click on the few they might be interested in. When they click on the ad they usually see a picture of the machine or machines right then. They do not have to take the time to click on the link and be taken to craigslist to view the ad. Anything less is intentionally wasting the forum members time and time is money. No one including myself wants to see all these ads that say almost nothing and make us sort through them all trying to find the ones worth looking at. You might as well just start copy and paste every ad on craigslist and that is not what has been done by me or those trying to help other members find a good deal. It is done to ruin the whole purpose of this section of the forum and take away the original intent of posting the ads to help other people get a good deal not spend half a day sorting through a bunch of bad ads looking for a good one. If you don't have the time to post the ad with the location and copy and paste a picture to make it eaier for everyone to see then the ad shouldn't be posted. The ads should at least have a price that is reasonable to begin with for the machine. I post as an example a Spiral for under $200 and if the ad says $300 I don't post it. I think we all know what is reasonable and what is meant to be a waste of our time. Unless of course your purpose is to just try to spoil the benefit that everyone else is getting out of this because you don't like it yourself. We have a poll going on this subject so lets let the members decide without playing dirty tricks. nam
lurtsman Posted May 9, 2009 Posted May 9, 2009 The ads are how I figured out what good prices on various machines were. Until then, I wouldn't have known how much to pay for a spiral, or how low I could make an offer on some oaks.
davidsurvz Posted May 9, 2009 Posted May 9, 2009 I don't pay too much attention to these ads, I do most of my own treasure hunting but I do browse around here occasionally. If you are posting in a common area and people have an issue with it why don't you just ask Steve if you can have "Nams posting corner" or some such thing and just put all the posts there and anyone who loves your posts can enjoy them there by specifically going to your posting area and anyone who doesn't can just enjoy the forum as usual.
candyman_1984 Posted May 10, 2009 Posted May 10, 2009 I have personally used this section and have gained excellent knowledge here. Like the previous response it helped me know what a "fair" price was for certain equipment. What I did do is further research on these ads as anyone should do. I'm sure this takes a great amount of nam's time and frankly I appreciate it. Keep up the good work.

Someone (s ) are posting crappy ads on purpose to mess with you?
Jax Snacks Posted May 10, 2009 Posted May 10, 2009 As this section grows, maybe there should a folder for each state to organize them a bit. I like idea of always posting the city and price in the heading. Jax
ginger vend Posted May 10, 2009 Posted May 10, 2009 I appreciate all the work you put into finding deals for us and frequently look at these. State and city/county very helpful info also. Great job and thank you. Ginger Vend
nam Posted May 10, 2009 Author Posted May 10, 2009 T Bird, I think the post was very detailed and needs no further explanation. The ads I'm referring to are quite noticeable to anyone looking. The bad ads are "messing" with all those members hoping to find deals in their own areas easy and quickly. nam
T BIRD Posted May 11, 2009 Posted May 11, 2009 Me too Johnny....I have been without electric for 2 days and trying to catch up.LOL!! U R too funny!
Beer980 Posted May 11, 2009 Posted May 11, 2009 Must be aimed at me. I posted some good deals but no pictures with the ads. Sorry, I am not going to drive up the bandwith anymore then it is on this site by posting pictures with the ads. If people want to see the machines it is not much effort to click on the link. I don't think I picked any without pictures.
nam Posted May 11, 2009 Author Posted May 11, 2009 I did ask Steve myself about bandwidth requirements for these ads and if it were a problem. He said they were not a problem. Members wanting to quickly scroll through the ads like being able to find their own local area quick and easy. Posting the location so that they can do that is what probably all would like to see. Posting ads with only the name of a small town no one has heard of makes it almost impossible to go through the ads quickly. Posting an ad for Tampa is ok as everyone pretty much knows where it is. If in doubt the city and state should be posted. Posting specific information such as 10 Vendstars, Northwestern Super 60's or Wizard Spiral tells someone reading right away what the ad is for. Seeing "vending machine $50" or "gumball machine $40" doesn't give the reader enough information to know what the ad is for. They don't want to open each and everyone ad like it was meant to be a suprise to find out what it is when they open it. Again, the idea is to make it fast and easy for members to scroll through the ads and look only at those that sound interesting. Posting the picture of the machine when one is available again is meant to make this process fast and easy for the members to go through the ads. A picture is worth a thousand words. They can see the equipment and make a decision if this is something they now want to take the time to click on the link to be taken to the real craigslist ad. Everyone can scroll through Ebay or Craigslist on their own. Posting the ads correctly here in the forum simply makes it faster and easier to spend a few minutes and do a quick scan and sometimes find a deal they like. They may not always have the time to do it on their own. Posting ads correctly takes more of the posters time to give a clear location, description and copy & paste the picture. Just posting alot of ads without this information makes the process of going through the ads very time consuming. If your intention is tell help members find deals with your posts then make it as easy as possible for them to do it. nam
T BIRD Posted May 11, 2009 Posted May 11, 2009 I gotta get to the store and re-up on some popcorn. I am running low right now.........
Beer980 Posted May 11, 2009 Posted May 11, 2009 Well I don't have that kind of time for detail. I decided to post some deals and I was working my way around the country state by state because nobody seemed to jump at your contest proposal. People should be willing to click on an ad if they are interested and know the town listed, after all the poster to this site did alert them to it. The alternative is the old way where everyone can go look for them on their own and weed throught all the ads. All I did was copy the title line from the particiular Craigslist ad and give a short comment. Sorry I messed up your system but if I see a smaller town that I don't know then I would not click on it because I am familiar with all the Craigslist cities in my state. I won't be posting any more ads from around the country because I don't have the time to do it the way "it should be done". Take that suggestion to have 51 folders added & work on it so they can be seperated and maybe it would be easier on other people to post deals.
sbishop Posted May 11, 2009 Posted May 11, 2009 I love the ads and when I build up some funds I hope they are still here to help me find more machines
shvend Posted May 11, 2009 Posted May 11, 2009 Nam, I love the ads myself keep up the good work buddy!
tedk Posted May 11, 2009 Posted May 11, 2009 Johnny: Will you get me some popcorn while you are out there? Thanks!
