anyone ever have to deal with a machine after a fire?  I just picked up three machines from a restaurant that burned.  The machines did not suffer heat damage, but are covered in soot and smeel like smoke.  The gumballs are dumped the candy is dumped and I am washing one machine in dishwasher to see how it works.  Any other ideas?  I was thinking fireplace cleaner in a can.  Not sure if it will melt the plastic.  any ideas would be appreciated.

thanks all

preacherman,

A dishwasher is not going to do very well against the sut that was left on your machine.  You are going to have to paint these machines now.  Take a brillo pad as scrub these machines and the biggest part of the sut will come off.  You will have to take and repaint the machines due to the amount of paint that will come off when you wash them.

You can try a whole mess of the Clorox wipes. It is surprising how much soot they will take off. You will need rubber gloves and cover-alls or old clothes. Air them out thoroughly to get rid of the smell. If you have trouble getting the smell put some charcoal in the machine. The charcoal will absorb the smell.

Good luck,

To repeat what I learned earlier today. You should put a grey primer on it first, then spray paint it to the desired color. ^^ Go go refurbishing lessons.
