Gibbie Posted May 25, 2009 Posted May 25, 2009 I was on ebay and I saw this: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=300315929054&ssPageName=ADME:B:EOIBUAA:US:1123 A gumball machine with flames painted on it! Hmm.. I thought this would look nice in an autoparts store. I didn't win the bid on it but i wasn't aggressive. A thought occurred to me. I work for PPG in their color lab department and I've seen many nifty looking eye catching colors. Have any of you thought of using automotive paint to paint the exterior of a metal gumball machine? Metalic red with gold pearl would look great. It probably wouldn't cost a lot of money to paint such a small object if it were prepared in advance for painting.
Quarter Master Posted May 25, 2009 Posted May 25, 2009 Gibbie, Many times I've thought about custom fancy paint jobs on my machines.I myself think it would look great-but then I had to stop and think about how the business owners would look at it.It may just stand out like a sore thumb to them.I'm still considering doing some painting, but maybe with a little conservative touch.Don't want to get thrown out of a location or have the machine stolen.
lurtsman Posted May 25, 2009 Posted May 25, 2009 The paint job looks great. The challenge is only that you do not want the business owner to feel your machine is more eye-catching than his restaurant.
sharleeruby Posted May 26, 2009 Posted May 26, 2009 what about looking at location and paint it with thier decorating in mind i just put one in a tye dye shop you know a 60s theme painted it purple and they loved it so of matches but still stands out
nam Posted May 26, 2009 Posted May 26, 2009 sharleeruby, What kind of machine was it? Sounds cool, can you post a picture of it? nam
sharleeruby Posted May 26, 2009 Posted May 26, 2009 uturn 4 i didnt take pics but i will when i service it then post have to be in the area june5 check then
sbishop Posted May 26, 2009 Posted May 26, 2009 great idea sharleeruby. Painting it to match their theme will help it stay onsite longer. Also, if someone else trys to place next to you, they may ask them for a custom paint job. It could keep out other machines
nam Posted May 26, 2009 Posted May 26, 2009 Can't wait to see a pic of the purple U Turn. I agree the bright caution yellow might really stand out in the wrong way with some locations. Repainting to match the location would be cool as long you don't have something so custom you have to repaint again if you end up pulling the machine. There's a company up in Canada selling Pink U Turns. Seems like pink would contrast almost everywhere you placed it. nam

nam Posted May 30, 2009 Posted May 30, 2009 I think the purple U Turn looks cool! Really fits in with the color scheme goin on there. lol nam
Threeponys Posted June 3, 2009 Posted June 3, 2009 Awesome. That looks great! A great way to keep a location by setting a machine to the decor. Asking the owner for their imput gives a sense of importance and they will no doubt like you. We all feel better when asked for our input. Now for the flames on a machine in the local Harley shop!
