kai1836 Posted May 28, 2009 Posted May 28, 2009 Was anyone here vending in the 70's? I'm wondering what everyone thinks about ways to survive and thrive during periods of high inflation. Any thoughts?
shvend Posted May 31, 2009 Posted May 31, 2009 I myself was not even alive in the 70's but my dad was vending in those days. Wish I could help you.
antoniocinisi Posted June 1, 2009 Posted June 1, 2009 I was born in the 70s so I cant help you either.
nam Posted June 1, 2009 Posted June 1, 2009 I expect to see inflation once our economy starts coming back again. Everything will start costing us more money from soup to nuts. Or in our case PM&M's to cashews. I'm not to concerned with my sticker/tattoo machines because if the price increase comes I'll just go from 50cents to 75cents per vend. I'm not concerned with my gumball machines vending for 25cents as the darn gumballs are so cheap how much can they go up? What worries me is all the bulk candy costs going up and machines with 25cent mechs that I can't change. Well, I could change all the mechs but at what cost. I've got quite a few 8 select U Turns. Man, would that cost some money to change to 50 cent mechs? Even with triple heads that's buying 3 new 50 cent mechs for each machines. That would cost more than I paid for most of the machines. It may not come to this within the next year but I think it's coming. Just a question of how soon our candy prices will be too high for 25cent mechs. nam
pdavid Posted June 1, 2009 Posted June 1, 2009 There's really going to be no way around it except to upgrade the mechanisms. I know a 50 cent Super 60 mech costs $20 new plus shipping. Ouch!

lurtsman Posted June 1, 2009 Posted June 1, 2009 That's one good option antonio. On candy we can also set the wheel very small and hope they will use it twice. With toys it is definitely a challenge. When our CoGs go up, we have to hope the customers buy far more product. On the upside, at least we will have bought the machines before prices go up on them. (I'm really hoping to purchase a small house or condo in the next year, but I've got to get my business rocking to afford that. If prices are still under control in 2 years when my wife finishes nursing school, we can buy our property using her job for verified income. Flat rate mortage of course, then we will have far more security) I don't see a good way to handle the one inch toy vends, unless we swap them into singles gumball machines. We can certainly hope the price on toy materials doesn't go up, but I can't fathom what would keep it's cost down when the rest of the economy is recovering. Candy is certainly likely to pick up--however I do not expect PMM to go up significant in price for a long time. They had a rise over the last two years as a comfort food where insecure people were willing to pay far more for them. We may actually see a drop in PMM price over the next two years--unless someone can point to a significant increase in their cost of production. My guess is that the money is going to Mars Corp. bottom line.
pdavid Posted June 1, 2009 Posted June 1, 2009 [glow=red,2,300]or u could buy the guts and switch em out for 6 bucks[/glow] Ah, great idea!
antoniocinisi Posted June 2, 2009 Posted June 2, 2009 how about some reputation form those of you that like my idea? seems like I was the only one to buy whole mechs to up prices.then I learned that little secret and when the issue comes up I make sure to mention that so some of us wont make that same mistake, while spending hundreds on coin mechs.
nam Posted June 2, 2009 Posted June 2, 2009 Antonio, I just clicked the blue heart to try and give you some reputation but it didn't work. You're number didn't change. Really don't think this "reputation" means anything at the moment. So how, where and what are you able to buy to change mechs from 25cents to 50cent mechs? Is this something that can be done just with NW or Beaver or is it something i could do to my U Turns, 800's and my quality Vendstars? nam
antoniocinisi Posted June 2, 2009 Posted June 2, 2009 I would rather call you and discuss this but for everyones benefit I will answer you here nam.in short: I only own 1 beaver machine and a couple more machines with thier coin mechs.it seems that beaver coin mechs need more parts IF they can be converted from 25 to 50.I have one 50 cent beaver mech (on that oscar I got recently).not sure on the bigger machines. northwestern sells conversion kits for thier 25 cent super 60 mech to 50 cents and 75/100 kits on thier super 80. it is simple they dont provide directions but I figured both out on my own. a and a global machines can go from 50 cent to at least 75 on thier bigger machine.I had a tougher time with these.not sure about 25 to 50 on the p89. I have heard on here that 1800 sells to thier customers a 50 cent mech.of course only if you bought the machines from them and is about 40-50 bucks. vendstar not sure I doubt it. uturn has 50 cent mechs at the same price as 25 cent and cant be converted.
nam Posted June 2, 2009 Posted June 2, 2009 Thanks for all the advice Atonio and if I could give you some reputaion points I sure would! Will you accept an I owe you? nam
