nam Posted May 31, 2009 Posted May 31, 2009 I think we're all probably in a learning phase trying to figure out how everything works with this new software. At least I feel like a kid on the first day of school. What's this? Where's that? How do we do this? I'm a pretty old dog to teach all these new tricks at the same time. Maybe instead of all of us having to learn everything the hard way, we can help each other. If you figure something out post it here so we'll all know. If no one else needs help remember I'll be here lost and needing some simple directions. Help an old man find his way around this place. lol nam
antoniocinisi Posted May 31, 2009 Posted May 31, 2009 is the view recent topics button gone? what about all our saved topics will we get notified or do we need to mark them as notify when theres a reply
nam Posted May 31, 2009 Author Posted May 31, 2009 Well, I might not know much yet but have figured out how to ad a picture as I always used to post alot of pics in the old forum. So just make your post and click on "preview". Once this has come up look over to the left of the box and you'll see an arrow with "additional options". Click on that. Now hit the "Browse" button and look for your attachment to add. nam
caserri Posted May 31, 2009 Posted May 31, 2009 is the view recent topics button gone? what about all our saved topics will we get notified or do we need to mark them as notify when theres a reply Antonio, The recent posts tab, or link, is now at the bottom of the main forum under the "Forum Stats" section. Here is a link to the recent posts as well.. http://vendiscuss.com/forum/index.php?action=recent Also, I sent out a mass welcome back email to all the members when we came back online. In it I explained that you will have to spend some time in your profile section as there are many, many new features including expanded notification rules. By default, you will not be notified about anything unless you change your options. Steve
MrEen Posted May 31, 2009 Posted May 31, 2009 This topic didn't exist when I posted this suggestion earlier so I'll repeat it here so it's easier to find. If you like the Quick Reply box at the bottom of each thread you have to enable it on the new forum. Here's how. Click on "Profile" then under Modify Profile click on "Look and Layout Preferences" and modify the next to last setting here to "show, on by default" Scott
antoniocinisi Posted May 31, 2009 Posted May 31, 2009 gaaaaasp all my watched topics are not watched anymore??????
nam Posted May 31, 2009 Author Posted May 31, 2009 This is just a test. I just tried to make a reply to one of the craigslist deals posted by Chris. The system came up and said i could no longer post on this board? Then it made me sign in again which I did so now I'm seeing if it will let me post again? nam
nam Posted May 31, 2009 Author Posted May 31, 2009 Has anyone figured out how to edit their post? I can't find anyway to edit here? nam
nam Posted May 31, 2009 Author Posted May 31, 2009 I'm not sure how to correct an issue of the time the forum is showing for me. My computer has the correct time but the forum doesn't. Not sure this is important but the posting time of my posts here in the forum is actually an hour ahead of what it should be. The post above was made at 10:55 not 11:55. Arizona does not go on Daylight Savings Time and that might be the issue with the time being wrong in the forum. How can I get the forum to show the correct time for me? nam
nam Posted May 31, 2009 Author Posted May 31, 2009 The web site for the forum is running extemely slow for me. Earlier I had a private message all written and ready to send. I timed how long it took from the moment I hit send and it took 55 seconds to do it. If I try changing from one area of the forum to another its taking from 20 seconds to over a minute. It seems like I'm using dial up or something and I have high speed cable. I have more than one computer and they'll all running at the slowest speed you can possibly imagine. Whenever I'm not on the forum's website both computers are running very fast like they always do. I've gone back and forth several times checking this out and both computers are always very fast until I come back to the forum and it's like sooooo slow! Anybody else having this issue? Anyway suggestions? nam
Beer980 Posted May 31, 2009 Posted May 31, 2009 The board time is off by one hour and I overlooked it too. I did find in our profile how to adjust it. You can manually add how many hours it is off or subtract or it has a button to click to see if the board can figure it out. I tried it both ways and it worked for me so right now my time stampas are correct but I think Steve may have the board short by one hour as an oversight.
Beer980 Posted May 31, 2009 Posted May 31, 2009 is the view recent topics button gone? what about all our saved topics will we get notified or do we need to mark them as notify when theres a reply I have always liked the feature at the top on the right. "Show unread posts since last visit and Show new replies to your posts." I always go there first to see what I have missed since my last visit.
Beer980 Posted May 31, 2009 Posted May 31, 2009 I think the text size may be a little small so I upped it to 12pt in my last post to see if people find it better at that size or if we should leave it alone. What do you all think?
Beer980 Posted May 31, 2009 Posted May 31, 2009 Has anyone figured out how to edit their post? I can't find anyway to edit here? nam Just click to the right along the top of that current post. You will see where you can click "Quote" and another option to "Modify". Click Modify to edit your post but you still have the time limit do do that.
G-man422 Posted May 31, 2009 Posted May 31, 2009 This is fun! Like Nam said, it's like the first day of school, haha. I like the layout and am having a lot of fun playing. Do we still have the "members by state" index?

"Show unread posts since last visit and Show new replies to your posts." I always go there first to see what I have missed since my last visit. Beer makes a great point. The "Recent Unread Topics" and the "Updated Topics" links in the upper left box should be your first stop to see new posts, either in threads you have participated in or overall. Steve
nam Posted May 31, 2009 Author Posted May 31, 2009 Steve, Are you going to change the time or should we go in as beer suggested and change it ourselves? I figured if we went in and changed the time and then you also changed it on your end we'd be off again. Beer, Thanks for the tip on the modify key to edit. It worked which is how I'm adding this. I had tried the little box with the pencil and didn't know what it was for? Just did it again with the little box with the pencil and it worked. I must have been past the time limit when I tried it before. nam

I figured if we went in and changed the time and then you also changed it on your end we'd be off again. nam The board is set to the time zone where it's server is located. I posted directions how to change it in another thread. Go to "Profile" then to "Look and Layout" you will see an option for time offset. Click on "Auto Detect" and it will update your time. If that doesn't work, you can manually + or - the time in the box. The box with the pencil is a "quick edit" the modify button is a "full option" edit. Steve
nam Posted May 31, 2009 Author Posted May 31, 2009 I'm still tring to figure out why Vendiscuss is running so slow on my computer. I have tried using other browsers, FireFox and Chrome but didn't seem to make any difference. I am being notified "This site does not provide identity information". So could it be the system registery? Down at the bottom of my screen it will say "waiting on Vendiscuss" then when that finally goes away it says "waiting on rover.ebay" which I have found is a go fetch tool for ebay. Anyway, trying to use this is almost impossible as it takes as long as a minute to have something come up after clicking on it. Appreciate any advice here. nam

In fact it is a tad bit quicker for me. The ebay rover is for the ebay listings in the left column. Steve
shvend Posted June 1, 2009 Posted June 1, 2009 I know this is very minor stuff I am asking here but I have just about figured everything out here. What is the deal with stars under the banners? Where they there before? And what does the Reputation mean? Just wondering have a great day!
alyssamma Posted June 1, 2009 Posted June 1, 2009 Not sure about the stars, but rep points basically are an indication of how "worthy" your posts are. You'll see a little heart by each post under the avatar. Clicking on it gives a rep point to that person. The more reps they have the more weight their advice should carry. Kevin
