Dixie Narco 440 Takes coins and vends, Takes dollars and gives nothing

Hello All!

I'm new to the entire Vending Machine scene. I have recently purchased a Dixie Narco 440 as a bit of childhood wish fulfillment. Now that I have it I'm working on getting the old girl back on her feet. She was sold to me with a non functioning Bill validator. Or at least the owner told me it did not work. I've done a little digging and from what I can tell the validator is just fine. It's a ba30b mech and she is showing a stable red led with no flashing codes. It takes the dollars no problem and stacks them up. However the machine seems to not be getting the message. No credit for the money is issues and no change given. Hitting the coin return is similarly unresponsive. So in short it takes your money and gives nothing (Classic vending machine took stole my dollar story). I've checked all the wired connections un plugged and plugged them back in, but Ill be honest I'm only just learning what I'm looking at. The coin mech is a coinco 3341-s. Ill post a picture of her asset tag with all the details on the machine. Any help is appreciated!

If it accepts coins and vends then either the validator is not sending the dollar credit pulse to the coin mech, the coin mech isn't seeing the pulse or the harness between them is bad.  Try unplugging both ends of the harness and plugging back in a couple of times to see if it's a dirty connection. Otherwise, without another coin mech and validator you don't know which is the problem.  A good vending tech that carries spares with him could sort it out pretty quickly.

After reading what I could on the machine I was thinking something similar. I wonder if I could hook a multimeter to the wiring harness and look for the credit signal. See if I can at least see if the signal is being sent and if it's making it to the coin mech

A voltmeter won't pick up the pulse as it's just milliseconds long.

Darn I'm sure there must be a service tech in my area I'll have to see how much they would charge to come out and take a look at something like that or if it would just be cheaper for me to buy the parts and swap them until I figure out what's wrong

A cheap service tech might charge you $50 if they are nearby.  The local service/distribution people an hour from me charge almost $100/hour.  I could buy a validator and coin mech for what they would charge me.

I was thinking that might be the case. Which would you think is more likely a faulty validator or a faulty coin mech? I looked over the wires between them cleaned the connectors and could not find anything obvious. The Validator is not throwing any codes.

This is a really interesting problem. I'm having a blast learning how this machine works. I wonder if their is a way to know if the validator is sending the signal. I feel like it is because the mech seems in good nick but honestly that's 100% just a feeling I'm basing that off absolutely nothing but unrelated experience with computers.

My money is on the ba30b.  If a mars 2511 will connect to your coin mech, you should get a refurbished one.  If that fixes your problem, you should throw the ba30b away.

Really? what makes you think its the validator?

From experience.  The Coinco BAs just haven't been very reliable for me.  I have sent many off in the past and they came back only to fail usually within the first 6-12 months.  That's not very reliable and I am not blaming the people who rebuild them but I am blaiming their age and perhaps the lack of quality in the components used to make them.  Could it be the coin mech or harness? Sure, but I would start with the validator and see what happens.  I throw coinco BAs away.  Not worth it anymore.  In fact, I scrap single price machines completely (which is what yours is).  If I was diagnosing your machine, the Coinco BA is the first thing I would not only replace, but throw into the trash.

From any reputable place, it may cost that much.  I found this on ebay.  The guy has 100% rating and selling many vending machine components.  Unfortunately, you won't know if it works or not unless the bill acceptor is your problem.

Hmm for 95 might be worth trying the tech first.

Did you resolve your issue? I have the same machine, same problem. Mars 2511, trc6000 coin mech, swapped out all the harnesses except for the coin mech to main board harness. I am going to try a 3rd replacement on the bill validator this Friday though.

You have to make sure the dip switches are correct on the validator

I'd be grateful if you could tell me what those dip switch settings are (high acceptance). I have looked all over the internet and even called the biggest vending supplier in Nashville... no one knows. Again, its the 2511 U3.

Side note, your contributions to this board have been amazing... thank you so much!
