gekkouno Posted June 2, 2009 Posted June 2, 2009 Hello, I am 17 and I am just starting in the vending business. I have owned other small businesses in the past, relating to saltwater tanks and flea markets. I figured the best way to start is bulk vending. What do you think about vendstars? I can buy them for 100 a piece and they seem relatively simple to maintain and repair. The locations where I want to put my machines are laundry mats and family restreraunts. I plan to start off with two and work my way up from their. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
nam Posted June 2, 2009 Posted June 2, 2009 gekkouno, Welcome to the forum and congrats on making this decision at only 17! Very cool that you have the ambition and drive to start a business so young. I'm impressed with you from just your first post. I would have to tell you not to buy those Vendstars for $100. I have alot of Vendstars myself but think you could buy some for less. You especially wouldn't want the Vendstar machines in a laundromat because they are the easiest machines to break and being plastic won't hold up well to that type of location. The best thing is to read our startup guide and our machine review guides here in the forum. You should also enter Vendstar in the search section here in the forum and see what you can find out. Same with anything machine or anything else you want to learn about vending. Maybe do some reading for a few days before spending your hard earned money. You are a welcome addition to our forum and glad to have you here! nam
Threeponys Posted June 2, 2009 Posted June 2, 2009 Gekkouno: You have picked a great place to learn the basics in Bulk Vending. I wish this had been around in 1991! Don't hesitate to ask for the thoughts and opinions of many vending vetererns on this forum. I started out with Northwestern Triple Plays. A bit pricey if bought new so look for good used deals. Nam tends to have that information on a minute to minute basis (how's he do that ) and has good advice as well. This is a business that takes work but at the same time can be easy. If you can get past a "No", be persistant, provide good, clean, working machines then you will succeed. Learn from the best right here. Welcome to our world Rich
lurtsman Posted June 2, 2009 Posted June 2, 2009 100$ is more than I would pay for a vendstar. I suggest you follow the same strategy. If you buy vendstars, 50$ or less. If they ask 75, go in search of a better deal.

mrsar66 Posted June 3, 2009 Posted June 3, 2009 Hello gekkouno, As a fellow 17 year old let me welcome you to the forum. The vending industry certainly has its ups and downs, but at the end of the day it’s a great business to be in. The vendstars might not be the best choice to start off with, try something like a 1-800 or even a seaga triple vend. They are relatively cheap compared to a beaver or northwestern machines, but at the same time they are tough machines and you should be able to get your money back quick. If you have any questions don’t hesitate to throw me a PM
G-man422 Posted June 3, 2009 Posted June 3, 2009 gekkouno welcome to Vendiscuss! I will echo that the vendstars are not the best machines, and $100 is a little much each. I wish you the best and way to go getting started so youn.
MrEen Posted June 3, 2009 Posted June 3, 2009 I gotta say it. I (NOW) wish I had such drive at 17!!!!!! Back then, girls and music was all that mattered to me (and NO WAY would you have been able to get me to consider a vending business!) In fact, most "jobs" seemed incredibly dull to me. And, I 'd like you youngsters to note, I really wish someone had given me investment advice back then (even if only teaching me to sock away a minimum of 10% of my earnings and let the power of compound interest explode my savings!) Now, that being said, get off my lawn! Scott
MrEen Posted June 3, 2009 Posted June 3, 2009 Obviously, by "get of my lawn" I meant "welcome to VENDiscuss!!!" Just in case any of you youngins didn't smell what I was cookin'!

eddiebauervending Posted June 3, 2009 Posted June 3, 2009 Welcome gekko kelly is right don't pay more than 50 bucks or so for a vendstar or really any machine for that matter. That is the machine I use personally and I've had some good luck with them. People won't typically sit in a public place and break in,they walk out with your machine and you can do that with any machine. If you need any help give me a shout. eddiebauervending.com locators 832-883-4479

midman128 Posted June 3, 2009 Posted June 3, 2009 I have to echo what I have seen here. I haven't paid more than $50 for any of the machines I bought used. They are on ebay all the time and craigs list. Don't get sucked into buying a biz-op deal or anyting either. I am looking at adding some peppermint patty machines to the mix. I have a friend that has 8 and is doing $50/mo with them each at .25 vend. He tells me the peppermint pattys cost less than $10 for 240 of them. Good luck and congrats on starting out.
