DN 276e Double Vend

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone,

I have a Dixie Narco 276e that's giving me the dreaded double vend. I'm trying to vend 20oz Poland spring bottles, and I'm 99% sure I have everything set up right; cam setting 5, back spacer in space 21, and the correct shim. Anyone have any ideas?

I did notice something odd about the column I'm vending the water out of- the rotor seems to rotate too far. In the other columns the rotor sits flush with the spacers between columns, but the rotor in the water column seems to be overturning and leaving a little bit of space between the rotor and the column wall. Could these be causing the double vends?

It's worth noting I have a second 276e right next to it set up the same way but I'm not running into any issues vending 20oz waters out of that machine.

Any help would be appreciated.

TIA!

Confirm the motor isn't coasting and there isn't a ton of slop between the motor and cradle.  If all is performing correctly but still double vending, you must have an incorrect shim, flakey vend complete switch or twisted cradle. To confirm the shim, move the water to another selection with the exact same settings to see if the issue is with the column.

I forgot to mention I swapped the shim while I was on location and adjusted the back spacer to try to eliminate more possibilities. I tried both Cam settings 2 & 5, and both gave me the double vend. Where can I check the complete vend switch?

Also, when you say cradle are you referring to the metal half circle that the drinks fall into? I may have a twisted cradle if that's what you mean because it's the only cradle that sits differently in the machine. When the motor finishes rotating the cradle is a little past halfway (halfway being in line with the bottom of the column walls.

I call them cradles, some people call them buckets or rotors.  They are what's at the bottom of the column and hold the drinks that are ready to vend.   The vend switches are what ride on the cam that you're adjusting for product depth. Bent or faulty switches can allow the motor to move too far instead of killing power to the motor at the proper spot.   Another issue with those is the spring loaded motor brake can get gummed up and not lock the motor in place immediately when power is removed. This allows the motor to "coast" beyond the normal home position, sometimes to the point of dropping a second drink.  In this case, it will normally show as jammed after that vend as the motor switch is not resting in a trough on the cam

Those 115 VAC vend motors have plenty torque to twist a cradle.  It can normally be seen but if you pull that cradle and one that's functional and place them side by side, you should be able to see the twist.  .

Thanks for clarifying your terminology- I'm in my first year of vending and I'm still learning everyday.

I actually think I know what happened- when I was getting the machine location ready I took the motor off to clear a jam. When I did that, the cradle rotated down and I might have put it back 180 degress off its connection if that makes sense. Could that make the cradle 'coast' as you mentioned above?

That won't make it coast but it will put you 180 out which will drop two then drop none, then drop two and drop none.  I call them rotors in narrow columns, oscillator bars in wide columns, snack machine have rows with spirals, not lanes or coils, etc.  A location is one vending location, a route is all the locations that one person can service.

That's exactly what was happening- drop two then none drop two then none...I'll rotate the cradle next time i'm on site. Hopeful that will fix the issue because as mentioned, I have the same exact set up without issue in the machine next to the one I'm having the issue in.

Tjhank you all!
