National Snacktron 2 Bill Validator

How can I test a bill validator in a Snacktron 2 to see if it’s live getting power?. I see no lights, but my Snacktron machines that work have no lights on the validator either. It’s not accepting dollars, I have powered the machine off and on. Cleaned the validator. Made sure there’s plenty of change in the changer. It acts like it’s dead. No sounds from it and will not try to take a dollar. Just seems dead.

What is the make and model of the validator?

That validator has been obsolete for at least 20 years. You'd be best off contacting D&S Vending to get what's needed to convert it to MEI. Mounting and harnessing is different and if memory serves me right there's a different interface board

I was kind of afraid of that scenario. I have a few of these and they’re always a struggle.  Thanks for you help! I will check with D&S

My recall is that when the door is open on Smacktrons the display reads :Coin Only".  If you hold ther door switch closed it shouldd power the validator.

Should I hear it cycle up or lights come on anywhere?

You are correct. When the door opens, coins only appears on the display.  Goes off when the door is shut.

Since the validator is aftermarket it does not power up until door switch is closed.  Tale the switch shut and then try.  too tough to reachfor one perswon.

With the door shut the validator still seems dead. Will not try to take a bill.

You don't want that validator anyway.  Once you get a Mars in there you'll be much happier. You should know that when you install the Mars you will remove the front mask to mount the validator. I recall it's the only way anything other than a Maka can be installed in the narrow side of the glass - and it's a PITA to mount it.

MEI VN2511? And can I get harness for the existing main board?

It would be an aftermarket kit that Vendors Exchange used to sell.  If they don't have it then try D&S or Capital Vending but beyond that it's time to retire the machine.
