Need to drill lock out after break in attempt

Recommended Posts

Hi Everyone,

2 vandals tried to smash out the lock on my RV 660-9 Giii. They were unsuccessful in opening the door. My key won't work however . I have spare locks just wondering what is the best type and size drill bit to use for this .

Also does anyone know of a specific padlock cover that works specifically on this model machine?

I have video footage of them trying to break the lock after 20 min they gave up. PXL_20230709_221129600.thumb.jpg.efd7d58ee9a6cb7d8db911e94e400dcc.jpg

Thank you for the help.

Luckily you have an Ace-type lock, so drill through the slot that was the keyway for the tab sticking out of your key.  That will be the side of the lock with the spring loaded locking bolt on it.  You'll need to replace the T-handle for sure and maybe the coin casting if you end up getting into that.  It might take a few bits.  You'll be cutting through the lock pins and springs and then through the spring bolt to cut it off which will allow the handle to pop out.  There used to be a hasp designed to fit into the slot to the left of the T-handle that also bolted to the two bolts on the right side of the door, but I can't find a link to it now. It looks like you might have this machine outside so you need big hockey puck locks and hasps on it and a good high security plug lock in the handle.  There used to be hardened handles for them as well.

I remembered that Lock America might have hasps so here is a link to that page, though it's not the T-handle cover you need.  https://www.laigroup.com/pdf/600-hasps.pdf

I just reread your post and realized it's a Royal, so here is the T-handle cover you need:  https://www.dsvendinginc.com/p-5618-d141110-royal-lock-cover.aspx

Or try this page: https://www.royalvendors.com/?s=lock+cover

Thank you @AZVendor! I was able to drill the lock out without any damage to the rest of the mechanism (although it took a while). I used a small sized bit then moved up quite a few sizes. 30+ minutes of slow drilling but it managed to get the job done with screwing up the T handle and springs etc.

Thanks also for the links, I'm definitely going to get the hasp and lock.

Your experience and advice is very much appreciated as always.

Hi @AZVendor just to double check, that link you sent me is for the G111 version? I know I found it confusing when I went to find a hasp originally, but based on the Royal Link you sent it looks right. Just want to double check before I order it,

Thank you sir

You'll need to read the text of the installation and they should refer to the models it's for.  I'm pretty sure it will fit yours as it's for the door more than the model of machine since Coke used that door for quite awhile.

Yep its the correct one Service bulletin 164 outlines the exact hasp and install.

Much appreciated
