DN 276e Compressor Short Cycling

Recommended Posts

hey ya'll,

Placed a dixie narco 276 e on location this morning and after I was working on it for a while noticed that the air was blowing but wasn't getting cold. Both fans were turning on. After a little while the hum of the compressor eventually came on, but then it turned off shortly after (roughly 2 or 3 minutes). I turned the thermostat all the off & all the way on after the compressor turned back off, and eventually  the compressor kicked back on.

Worth mentioning there's a 3-1 hard start kit attached to the compressor, and when I was moving it I managed to unplug the main power cord on the inside of the machine.

Does short cycling mean a bad compressor? Do I need to replace my cooling deck? Any mechanical failures I can check on?

TIA

Yes they're interchangeable?

As long as you don't have some Frankenstein machine going on, they are completely 100% interchangeable.

Lol they cooling decks look the same which is what prompted me to ask. Doesn't seem like there are any experiments going on

Some older E models had pressure sensors on the refrigerant line. Look for 2 wires attached to a small round sensor on the copper line. If so, cut the 2 wires and connect them together to bypass the switch. If no sensor, your compressor is likely failing.

I'll look for that next time I'm there. Any chance you have a photo of what the sensor looks like?

The fact that the compressor already has a hard start kit on it means this problem has existed for a while now.  It's just a matter of time before the compressor has to be replaced and now is the time.  Be sure your thermostat is at 3 1/2 and the capillary tube is clipped into the evaporator shroud to the right of the evaporator.
