Vendo 511 Not Working After Adding Card Reader

Recommended Posts

About a week ago I purchased a Vendo 511 machine. It was tested and worked perfectly at the time. Just the other day I tried adding a NAYAX card reader onto the machine & since then the machine has stopped accepting cash. The card reader also says it’s active but when I submit payment & select the option is says that it is unavailable and tells me to try again later.

I am not sure what I did wrong installing the card reader. Anyone have any suggestions?

Vendo Univendor2 models like the 511 do not play well with card readers.  It's a known issue and is because the board design is so old that card readers weren't anticipated.  There are no updated eproms as the only one that ever came out was hit and miss, mostly miss as yours is.  You'll need a more updated machine if you have to put a card reader into this location.  Take the card reader off and the machine will work fine again.

Is their anything that I can do to get a card reader to work with the machine? Maybe something else I can buy? The seller of the machine said it was card reader compatible.

Currently I have a NAYAX card reader on but whenever I try to use it the card reader gives an error that says "Temporarily Not Approved". I got it to start accepting cash but no luck getting the card reader to also work.

Regardless of what your seller told you, it's rare for a V511 with that logic board to handle a card reader.  Payrange might work but don't keep trying the card reader - it's just a no go.

I asked the seller and he said the control board that is in the machine came from another machine he had on location with a Cantaloupe card reader instead of my current NAYAX card reader. I don’t really see how NAYAX wouldn’t work but Cantaloupe would so I’m not sure it’s even worth testing.  What do y’all think?

At this point it sounds like my options are either try Payrange or just leave it as a cash only machine?

Vendo makes an adaptor that needs to be installed for CC to work...MAYBE... we tried and have had no luck with a 621 or a 721, I can't remember which.  Good luck.

Every V21 should be updatable to work with card readers.  Cabinet size (621,721, 821) doesn't matter.  Just make sure the revision number isn't old.   It's not the VEC number but the Rev # you're looking for.  The VEC determines the firmware specific to door style where the rev number is updates to that firmware.  Example, 12.1 rev 1.24 was created around 2005 and won't run a lot of newer card readers; however, 12.1 rev 35 should be good to go with all major newer readers that have been tested (cantalope, nayax, castle, etc).    The extra harness is for dexing purposes due.

Like AZ said, 511's can be a crap shoot but still, the revision will be the deciding factor for any readers to work. The same can be said for all equipment regardless of manufacturer.

Did he have holes drilled in the door for cantaloupe? If not, he’s lying.

I appreciate everyone’s comments, this thread was very informative.

Final update, I did actually manage to get the card reader to work. NAYAX finally called me back and apparently it was an issue on their end the entire time….

Just a note if anyone searches this topic. I have a Vendo 601 (same Univendor II 5.1 board) and I could not get the Nayax to allow cash sales after a CC transaction was ran. Updated to 1.068 firmware and same result. I then installed a Cantaloupe G11 ePort and it functions just fine. Like others have said, you may or may not have success with separate cash reporting.
