BevMax 4 compressor starting issue

Recommended Posts

I brought one of my BevMax 4 's back to the warehouse about 6 months ago because it was only doing about $20)week in sales. Waste of a machine, right? Great condition - looks new even though at least a decade old.  I was hoping to sell. Someone came to see today and worked perfectly ( as it did before I moved it), but compressor is not turning on. Temp sensor working good, fan operating correctly, compressor relay works through test and verified with meter, I powered the compresser ON with extension cord and came right on. So, I attempted a master reset and still no go.

I assume I am missing something simple because I am used to dealing with elevator machines that don't get praised like the BevMax. What am I missing?

I have a spare power supply/transformer/ relay assembly and a spare cooling deck, but I don't think they are the problem. That said, I do not understand why it will not turn ON.

Door switch staying in vend mode?  Or, if it uses a refrigeration relay then you can move the power terminals to the other side of the relay and see if it then starts.

Be patient. There is a delay in the compressor coming on when you close the door. Sometimes it takes from 3-5 minutes (which seems like forever when you are waiting)

Thanks for your help, but I found it first thing this morning. I did not realize these machines had one of those mechanical/ temperature relays. And it was not closing. Guess I'll just replace it since they are cheap.

I figured this machine would control the compressor with the temperature the display shows.

I have a number of royal vendors G3's and some have those mechanical/temp relays and some do not. I figured owners before me installed them when the temp sensors failed( instead of just replacing the temp sensors). So, I did not think the BevMax would have one. On my schematic is says- to cold control. Luckily, it is an easy fix.

Based on this, if the compressor relay is firing  but your compressor is not, you've lost the 115 VAC supply to or from the relay to the comp.   I would be looking for an open / disconnected wire.

How did you confirm with a meter that the relay is good?  From "relay test", the relay "clicks" or no?

That part is not a temperature relay, if you're talking about the mechanical switch with a cap tube that goes to the evaporator. That's the defrost sensor that will turn the unit off if it senses ice. I was about to have you jump it until I saw your last post. Get the OEM part which is CR0035792 (Crane new item number is 115161)

I was referring to the thermostat relay below/ on opposite side of wall from coin mech, but now I am having an equally stressful problem - the compressor is working in reverse.

When I open the door it turns ON and when I close the door ( after a delay start- it turns OFF). I go into TEST RELAY and it displays 1 when OFF and 0 when ON.

This machine is really bashing my self- confidence because I'm usually good with instrumentation and electro- mechanical controls. Pair that with all the reviews about this is the most user friendly elevator machine- AARRGGHH!!

Yep, relay clicks but then I pulled the assembly and wires and tested with meter. That is when I continued following the wires and found the cold control. (Why the redundance? Is not a temp sensor going to the control board and that turning the compressor ON/OFF enough?)

So, I replaced the cold control/ thermostat relay and now it is working in reverse. I imagine thermostat cold controls are all NO.

Also, I'm not sure if I am coming across agitated or condescending, but that is not me intent. This machine is definitely stressing me but I appreciate everyone's help and feedback.

Sorry for everyone getting bombarded with email announcements about my replies but I assume I found the issue. When I pulled the power assembly I must have put the compressor wire back in the NC position instead of the NO on the relay. Such simple mistakes can really screw up one's day. I will check it and share. Thanks again.

After reading your post fir the 3rd time I don't think I fully understand and want to . I found the replacement part online- what is the temperature specs for those? They keep it from freezing up/ drinks exploding and such? I assumed it was a redundant safety, but controlling defrost- I would appreciate learning) understanding more. Thanks for replying.

When the machine is filled with a lot of warm drinks it takes a long time to get them all cold. On long compressor runs ice can start to build up on the evaporator. The defrost sensor handles that in a simple manor rather than forcing timed defrosts, especially in a hot warehouse

As for your issue of working backwards, you put a wire back in the wrong place
