Jelle
Hello all, I’m researching whether vending could be something for me. I’ve read up on probably tens of hours of posts online by now, and it looks like it could be something for me. I especially like the self-employed and researching/optimizing aspect of the business. Getting hands on with some work also sounds good. From what I’ve seen a lot of vendors are from America, are there by any chance any European vendors around as well? Looking forward to learning from you guys! (Maybe down the road potentially you guys may learn something from me? :p) Jelle
Vendo Mike
SandenVendo Europe manufacturers in Italy with an office in Germany. I'm confident there are vendors in your area but you just need the means to connect. I've added their website below for a first step. https://www.sandenvendo.it/en/
Jelle
Thanks Mike! That link is helpful, I had only found the American site so far. I’m first setting up my business plan and researching all the aspects. For example, related to insurance and card readers. Here in the Netherlands (debit) cards are the primary means of payment. After reading the Internet, I am planning to start out with a few drink machines, which should hopefully lower the chances of spoilage. I read a lot of good things about the Vendo 721, it being a “workhorse” that usually “just works” and seems easily maintained. I’m curious about the evolution of the Vendo machines, which versions got released, in which order, how they looked, what changed about it etc. Does Vendo have some kind of “historical” timeline of its machines? Since I’m just starting out, first to see if I actually enjoy the work, I plan to buy a few Vendo machines second hand. You’ll probably hear more from me in the future Edited August 28 by Jelle Copy paste from notes on iphone made the markup golpher.
AZVendor
No need to worry about the timeline of Vendo machines but you can view most of it at vendoco.com and look at Support and then Retired Products.
Jelle
Hi AZ, Thanks for the nudge in the right direction. I thought if Vendo retired the products it would be difficult to get replacement parts in case something breaks down. Is this not the case? Vendo Mike
The current series of stack vendors (v21) has been in production since 2002. While we do update the firmware and doors from time to time, this line is not going anywhere. If you decide to purchase something older (univendor 2 / VMax series) parts will get harder to find as those lines went out of production in 1996 and 2001.
AZVendor
You are correct. Just stick to current models to have the least problems getting parts.
Jelle
Alright; I guess I'll just try to stick to the v21 series to keep it simple. One of the machines I found in my neighbourhood is a Vendo 189-5, but I can't for the love of me find any information on it on the Vendo websites. I guess that already kinda answers the question whether not to buy it... Other than asking experts the answer, is there any easy way for people like me to identify (Vendo) machines like this one? AZVendor
Only from the serial number plate that should be on the edge of the outer door. But you could also have models that are European only so we wouldn't have any idea what they were. In looking at that one and the vend mechanisms sticking out from under the motor cover it appears to be a lowering shelf machine though those were from the late 70's - early 80's. If I'm correct then it's junk. Otherwise it could just be a model that wasn't sold here.
Jelle
Thanks AZ, So if I got the serial number, I can enter it somewhere to look up the model? Or is there some specific logic documented somewhere on how to translate the serial numbers into what kind of model it is?
AZVendor
You would need to email it to the distributor that Mike pointed you to as those might not be in the US system.
Vendo Mike
Yeah...we don't carry or support those. I can see the manual is in what I believe is German. That said, for many years now, we have supplied the stack vendors for SVE so you should still be able to find preowned V21 series ( model numbers beginning in 621, 721, 821 )
Jelle
Thanks guys! I'm going to keep my eyes peeled for any v21's then! P.S. the manual is actually in Dutch! Love how we always look German to people 😛
