tooldini
Does anyone here do bulk in the schools? I work as a custodian for my local school system and see how the kids love erasers and pencil toppers. I have been thinking for a while about setting some single head machines to vend those two items in elementary schools. My wife is a teacher in Toledo and thinks it is a good idea and suggested I go to the PTO first to have them push it with the schools. I would offer 50% of sales just because it would be mostly to help the schools and I could make a couple bucks and a good name for myself and business. What do you guys think and if you do this did it do well? thanks Jeff
lurtsman
Offer 50% off net, and that is a very high starting offer. That way you don't find yourself volunteering your time and capital (in machines and product), to make someone else money and get nothing in return. (Perhaps not even gratitude) At least with 50% off net you are actually a part of the business and not just volunteering.
wevend
Offer them 20%. This is a business!!!
havending
I have seen it done in a few schools before. but only for a very short time once a higher up sees it there will be a phone call to follow to pick it up. Schools have plenty to deal without woring aboiut your machines. Just being honest here..... If you want to help the schools do as i do. When you order toys order some extra in bulk and donate to the schools treasure boxes. I do that alot and the kids love it.
sbishop
The schools now have very strict guidlines about what can be vended to students. My contact with coke said elementry schools can only have water and 100% juice. middle and high schools can add diet sodas. I am not sure about the restrictions for food candy items. tooldini
I know all the principals pretty well and the superintendant a little bit. I know about the vending of food and drinks but very little about other items. Some schools have had and still use pencil machines and tampon machines. It just sounded like a good idea to help the schools and make me a few dollars. I would start off with 20% I will do some more research and talk to a couple principals to see what they think. MrEen
tooldini, I think you're on the right track. Ask the higher-ups at the location. Maybe you won't get to do the type of vending you wanted, but have another opportunity open up to you (staff break room for example, where there are probably no "healthy" restrictions.) lurtsman
You've got to go for it tooldini. Talk to them, at worst you'll still learn about the system and figure out what doesn't work. At best you'll have a protected niche.
