lurtsman
I spoke to a woman earlier today about acquiring her machines. She had a nice fleet of machines available for sale for well under market price. I called her to talk to her about them, and she said there was a couple going to see them tonight. I asked if they were sold yet, and she said no, but the couple would be there in a few hours. I asked her if she would consider selling them to me right then for 50% over her asking price. She said she would call her husband and consider it. She didn't reach him, and decided it was only fair to let the other couple come first and have a chance to buy them.... I can not fathom why she is committed to giving them an opportunity to purchase. If her theory is that the first person in line should go first, so be it. The first person into a store doesn't check out first, the first person ready to buy items does. She left the extra money on the table and sold it to the people who had arrived first. I was more than a little frustrated that the idiocy of this woman cost me a great deal on machines. I wondered if I had seen the listing first if I could have talked her into paying me to take them. lurtsman
Looked like oak vista 300s NIB. Could've been eagles, pictures were not close enough to show brand.

MrEen
Hopefully she at least informed the couple that she already had your offer, but as their appointment was already set, she waited to give them a chance to match it. Scott

lurtsman
A member whose name started with golpher laced the forums with so much profanity Steve had to install a filter, in honor of our curse heavy patron, it changed all swear words to "golpher". Those of us that still remember the event when expressing anger on the forum simply type in golpher instead. It helps me remember the comic side of it also. I was really hoping to speak to her husband. She just didn't have it in her to sell the machines to me instead since she felt bad about the idea of them wasting a trip. (They should have left a contact number--though in this case apparently not leaving one is what allowed them to scoop up the deal) I've had this situation occur before, and I've been able to make the deal. Whoever wanted to have a look before buying was told when they arrived, "You can see them, but I've already accepted a full price offer". It's good to establish specifics of the deal when you talk to someone on the phone. I'm going to see some more machines tomorrow morning before a long shift. I do not expect them to impress me at all, but it isn't too much work to go have a look. (No pics, no brand names, poor description) If they do turn out to be good, he has them in a storage unit. Nothing encourages someone to sell so much as having to pay rent to hold onto the machines.
BudLeiser
I know I shouldn't be. But I am always surprised how bad some people are at doing "business". I can see only one point of view, and that is the fear that you will back out and she will have lost the sale to people who bothered to show up. However I think I would re-thunk the visitors with a price increase or wait till tomorrow deal. Depending on what I told them on the phone. It goes both ways though, I once told a guy I'll buy an antique pinball sight unseen for full price if he would just hold it for me. ($50 for a pin!) When I got there I felt so bad, what the hell did I say that for it wasn't good enough for termites. The most I could do with my limited skills would be to remove all rusted metal and use the back art for a coffee table. But I stuck to my word and handed him $50. (Sold it 2 days later for $75 but I didn't expect that to come through)

Paraflier
I asked her if she would consider selling them to me right then for 50% over her asking price. I misread the first time and thought you said 50% UNDER asking price. I was thinking, well of course she sold to the others, dummy! More money! I held my lip until I re read your post. Why would you not want more money faster? Sigh. I don't get it either.

If I was her, I would have sold to the first person who handed over the cash. In this case it sounds like it was the other couple.

Vending Gold LLC
you should've followed the couple outside who bought it and asked them how much they would sell them for.
lurtsman
you should've followed the couple outside who bought it and asked them how much they would sell them for. It was great to see this post again. I was quite upset that day The machines were over 200 miles away, so I didn't want to drive down unless I knew I was picking them up. As annoying as it seemed at the time, it all worked out. I bought the machines that were in the storage unit for 15$ per stand with machine included (single or double, 15$ either way). They were old machines, and they didn't look that great. Everywhere they went gravy followed. I can't complain, it was like lucky machines I replaced most of them with larger machines eventually, and I haven't decided if I will keep them or sell them for more. I ended up getting even better deals later on. This serves as a good reminder that even though it stinks to miss a good deal, more will come along.
