lurtsman
What mechanical fix can be applied here? I did a search of the boards and could not find a discussion regarding how to fix the machines. I picked up several at 20$ per in good condition, figured that was enough reason to deal with an inferior machine. The guy selling them said he had problems with quarters piling up on top of the chute, but tried to fix it by using a small piece of cardboard to deflect quarters from getting stuck. We have several operators on here with many vendstars (looks at Kevin), how do you prevent this problem? The machines otherwise seem okay. The brush housing is convenient for adding M&I to my product selection because they don't have the sharp metal springs. I'm just concerned about having the machine jam up and costing me sales. On a side note, I'm not huge on the 3 tray in the back design. 1800s are clearly a far superior machine. Hopefully we can have a system for fixing them in place before I install the next nine. Quarter Master
Lurtsman, Check with JPVEND, he has run into this before. There was also a thread on this a while back, but it may have been on the old forum before the change. It included info and pictures.
lurtsman
What is JPvend's user name? I did a search for him to send a message and it didn't come up. Thank you for the tip.
Quarter Master
Lurtsman, His proper user name is JPVendCo. Go up top to "Members"-then letter "J". I think he is on the second page. Click on his name and it will bring up his profile. Down at the bottom is a link to send him a pm.
mxer518
I use a peice of a cereal box folded in half and taped to each side of the chute, solved the problem for free.
Rustinm
There was another member who had a solution to this problem. I thought it was islander but i could be wrong. The thread was on the old forum but he had pics and everything. I have been using an old roll of heat tape made to wrap pipes to keep them from freezing. Take a piece about and inch or maybe a little longer and superglue it to the top of the chute. There is a very small peice of plastic on the vendstars that is SUPPOSED to guide them into the tray, its just not big enough. Once you have you chosen material glued on there it will ALMOST eliminate that problem. Im not sure if i explained this well so if you need more explination just let me know. JPVendCo.
I do know what to do to prevent this from happening. I cannot provide pics at this time as i am about 800 miles away from my nearest machine, but I can try to explain it. the best thing to use is inner tube. you cut it into squares and super glue it the original coin guide, which is too short. make it stick out a little past the old one and about as tall as a quarter.I I wouldn't call the 3 coin trays in the back a flaw.....it is a useful tool you should not neglect to use. If an item produces poorly in a given location, you know it immediately. if a product doesn't sell, you might as well try other stuff to see if you can increase sales. The Mage
As annoying as this sounds, open up the back, take out the money, then tilt the machine past 45 degrees to the side, and the coin should slide off. I think the biggest problem would be the people giving you a strange look when you do this. All they had to do was make the top of the chute round, or peaked, and there would be no problem. davidsurvz
I usually tip my machines and that works. At some locations I don't like to do that so I just lift up the canisters and scrape them into the coin trays. Sometimes I just leave them up there until the next time I service the machine if I am in a hurry. I will be doing something to address the issue inside the machines eventually. I also have another Vendstar tip. for the back door of the machines (which can sometimes be very difficult to wrestle open.) I took some Olive oil and a paper towel and ran a smooth small layer across the base of the door and the back of the machine below the coin trays....... WOW! what a difference that makes! No more wrestling with the door to get it open or closed. I have done that at a couple of locations and it works well.

Outlander
Here are the original pics, hope they help. It is a piece of bicycle inner-tube about 2.5-3" long and 1-1.5" wide superglued to the coin guide of the Vendstar. Pic 1 is after mod. Pic 2 is before mod. Mr. Vend
LOL, looks back at Lurts My wife services the machines and she has very small fingers. There is nothing we've tried to do to fix/prevent the problem KEVIN I ran into the same issue today with my hands being to large to get the quarters that were stuck at the top. I only realised that coins were at the top when my wife serviced another location. Mr. Vend

sweetstop
I like the fix ideas, however i just incorporated it into my process of servicing. When you have the top off just pop the canister off and brush them off from the top, i have big hands too and it works fine, just takes a second. also the coins only accumulate so far then they start sliding off. I had many vendstars on my route in Maine and never had a jam and we serviced every 6 weeks
