coinvestor
I have an air conditioner on the box of my truck. Right now I have it wired to a receptacle on the side, and I plug the truck in when its parked. I was considering hooking it up to a big inverter so it could run when the truck was in transit. Has anyone done this? Would I need a different alternator? Thoughts?
gundog
I don't think that would work- AC draw a lot of amps and inverters are typically for small amps. Most RV's and campers that run stuff like that have a generator on board to power them.
mission vending
You can do it but it'll be cost prohibitive. I use a large battery pack w/ a 3000 watt inverter to run a 12 cu. ft. freezer for frozen items and ice cream. My set up was approx 1,000.00. To run the a/c you'll need lots more power and batteries. I don't think you can get an alternator big enough to provide that kind of power without impacting your vehicles electrical system. My .
