BluePlate
I bought 3 locations over the weekend. When the owner gave me the keys, they were the same keys on my ring! This is not the first time this has happened. It's actually the 3rd. When I placed an order from A&A the other day, the salesman asked - What key number do you want? I have been trying to replace all my locks, it is not as easy as it sounds. It's not cheap either, but it it sure does seem it is worth it. BudLeiser
Has someone been robbing your machines? If you really want to keyalike your stuff go straight to the source and call Baton. Personally I've given up on that for the time being. Too many different machine with different locks, to much wasted money on new locks and keys, don't wanna wait for shipping for new locks and keys, goto home depot and they run out of a certain key code, gotta place the machines quick so I buy what they have in stock. Buy an entire route and add an entire new ring of 13 keys. Keyed alike. Someday....someday.
The Mage
I'm worried about having common keys that most anyone can get if they searched, but I also feel this is mostly a psychological problem, not a real world problem. Having all your machines keyed the same is nice. I have 15 keyed the same, but I switched one out. I have decided once I start getting too many different machines out there, I will start color coding the keys. Little piece of blue tape on certain keys, and on the machines that take that key. Red on some, yellow on others, and none on my most common key. When I start having a lot of machines out there, I will start making sure to re-key some of the machines, but not all of them. Just try to limit myself to the need of only 5 or 6 different types of keys.
davidsurvz
If i suspect anything fishy at a location, I will swap out the locks to a totally different lock set But I only run a few different locks for my entire route.
antoniocinisi
I switched out locks on all my racks once I found out that at least 2 other vendors had the same 705 key number from northwestern.the ajority of locks I now use are exclusive, since I have many keys still. sweetstop
When I first started I bought a lot of 38 vendstars with 3 different top keys and 2 different back keys Later I bought smaller lots from 3 different people in 2 states, guess what I had keys for them all Someone could easily gather a collection of keys and go around to skim off machines. You might try Jeff over at American cam lock, he has been great and I have been re-keying my route slowly and he will keep your key number on file and never sell it to anyone else
JPVendCo.
aren't we all good people here? i thought the locks and keys were to keep customers out. I dont worry about it. if someone opened my machine with their key, i am about 95% sure i have a key to theirs as well. I see it as, I stay out of their machine, they will stay out of mine. as far as a key system, i have 4 main back keys. i bought a couple packs of key covers for 97 cents a pack from wal mart. Then I walked over to the office supplies and found little dot stickers that were the same group of colors. so now i i know its a blue red yellow or green key when I get to each location,(according to my rout collection sheet) and also i took the dot sticker and placed it on the DOOR, so that the sticker stays with the lock, since all the parts are interchangeable. almost all my top keys are the same, so for those few pesky "159's" i just deal with it. or swap it out for an extra is the plan this time around. I think changing out you locks (unless you can trade) is a waste of cash. of course i only have 4 different keys I actually use, so thats not too annoying.
