kdub33
Today was my first time servicing my first location. It is a vendesign at a local auto shop and after two weeks Ive gotten 15 dollars. Is this location doing well enough to keep my vendesign at or should I switch it out with one of my 1800 machine triples?
kdub33
It is the 4 in one carousel vendesign so i am worried about spoilage because of so much candy if i switch to my 1800 I would put 2 candy and one canister of gumballs
davidsurvz
If you are worried about spoilage put less candy in the canisters. If all of the candy is selling leave the 4 way machine there. If just a couple or three items are selling put the items you sell the most of in the 1800 and make the swap.
kai1836
Hi, Sounds like you've got a great location there. Just watch out for theft. Those auto shops will clean you out before you know it. If sales remain where they are I'd switch to a triple. Good luck.
kdub33
Oh alright thanks guys for the help/suggestions, but Kai when you say theft do you mean slugging the machine or just stealing the entire thing?
kai1836
Hi, Theft is part of any business, in this business though it seems to be a little more frequent. (Bulk at least) As an example I went to service one of my auto places recently and when I arrived the machine was virtually empty. This surprised me and excited me as there should have been around 100.00 inside. Well I pop the back door and there was 50 cents. The stupid sob owner actually pretended to look surprised and looked at the floor and actually up the in the air as I explained I'd been robbed( as if money evaporates!!) There was no sign of forced entry. These guys sit around with tools all day and have plenty of time to pick, damage, shake, or completely destroy your machine. Just be careful where you locate. This location was part of the route I bought so it wasn't one I chose. Just be careful it sucks when you think your going to have to wheel the money out and you only leave with pocket change. Wow, Kai, sorry to hear that. Do you mind if I ask how long since you took over the route? The reason I'm asking is because while I'm new in the business, I firmly believe that building a strong rapport with the people at your locations can help to deter this sort of thing. There's no guarantee, of course, but certainly the number of people who would steal from a friend is lower than the number who would steal from an anonymous machine. kai1836
Jacob, That's a good point. I always try to build some type of relationship with my clients when I'm providing them with any kind of vending service. This was the first time I'd serviced this since taking over his route. I called the previous route owner that night and he said they'd ripped him off once before. If I'd known that I would have pulled the machine immediately upon the closing of our deal. I had business owners try to convince me of bogus commission deals they claimed the previous operator had made with them and there was one place I showed up to yank the machine where the business owner refused to let me take it unless I paid him. Its all just part of the fun! This month I'll have been doing this for a year and its been a learning experience every day. Good luck to you. T BIRD
I hear ya kai. I was just ripped off at a Waldbaums supermarket recently. Somehow they got the lid off of the Beaver machine and cleaned me out totally. I kept it there though. When I serviced it again last week, I had over 50 bucks total from the 2 Beaver heads. I am just gonna take it a month at a time there.
dperry
That's interesting about the beaver lids being taken off. I have had on 3 separate occasions with 3 separate locations had them call me up saying that I left the lid unlocked on my 2" vending machine. The way it happens is when I load up the machine, I try the mechs and run some quarters through them to make sure they work. Then I throw the caps back into the top of the machine. Well apparently I forgot each time to lock up the top of the machine. The point is, the locations each called me up to let me know, and took steps to keep the kids from getting into the product. They taped it shut, etc. I think you might only see a location calling you about it if you are paying them commissions. They might not care if it's a charity candy machine. kai1836
Johnny, Even after being ripped like that I would have left it for at least the night until I had called Mark. But when this *^%hole looked into the air like perhaps quarters can float away or evaporate I pretty much decided I didn't want to deal with him anymore! PS......for all the newcomers this is the best part of Vending. The business is yours, if you don't like someone you don't have to deal with them!
