ifishli
When looking for a soda machine what are the good brands and the ones to stay away from. Reliability being the primary concern.
Technivend
If you stay with the 3 major manufacturers you should be safe. Vendo Dixie Narco Royal Vendors The USI Soda is ok too. It is based on the Royal design.

coinvestor
I was just thinking the other day, I will never buy another bottle machine without a drop sensor regardless of the brand. JD
mission vending
The USI Soda is ok too. It is based on the Royal design. I agree with your comments and order of listing. Now about the USI let me add a caveat to that if I may. If you are getting the new BC10 or BC12 then you are ok. The previous version known as the CB700 has some issues, especially from the first year or two of production. The columns were made too narrow and right where the column begins to narrow you will encounter frequent "bridging" problems with 20 oz drinks. The bottles press against each other as the column narrows instead of reducing to a single file column and create a "bridge" which holds up the rest of the column. So the column will show as empty yet in reality could be more than 1/2 full. You have no problem with 12 oz cans in these machines. So if buying used I would be careful about anything older than 3-4 years for one of their can/bottle machines. To determine year of MFG for ALL USI equipment made since at least early 90's get the entire serial number. If the first number is anything BESIDES a 1 the first 6 digits is the serial number, the next 2 are year of MFG, the rest are various productions codes. Example sn#79736796156. The 797367 is the serial number, the unit was made in 1996 and if i remember correctly the 156 is the 156th unit of this type made that year. If the first number is a 1 then the first 7 digits is the serial number, the next 2 are year of MFG and the rest are the various production codes. Also agree with coinvestor about the drop sensor. I believe it is the day of the year. 156th day = end of May
mission vending
You could be right, when I asked the Tech guys at the factory ( a long long time ago) I was primarily interested in learning how to determine year of MFG.
