lurtsman
Attachment is not seeming to work. The metal pole in my vendstar is rusty. This makes it hard to put it together all the way, and I'm concerned it will continue to deteriorate. I considered getting another can of rustoleum, however painting it will make it even harder to fit it in the bottoms/tops where the rust is already getting in the way. (Current solution is to push them together and hope noone notices where the rust is visible. Failsolution for the win
The Mage
I am no expert, but I would think sand, then coat. Sanding may reduce the size enough that the coating may not seem as thick. Or you could soak, or coat it, with undiluted white vinegar. Wrapping it with a cloth, and soaking it with the white vinegar will keep the vinegar against the metal, without having to repeatedly reapply it. I haven't tried this myself for rust. (Works for hard water stains.) But the metal is supposed to turn black until rinsed with water. You want to soak it for at least 30 minutes, and may need to repeat a couple of times. bacho
Use Navel Jelly on it. Let it set for about an hour and then rinse it off. Dry it real good and rub it down with steel wool. It will give it a smoother surface and the pole will slip right on. I had to do this a couple times and it works real well.
lurtsman
Using this thread as Lurtsman question thread, I've been saving up I love the responses above for being specific. I'll go buy new products if needed. I found some lime-away my wife uses to handle rust, would that also work? I was looking at a bag of M&I. They have a number for vendors to call. Is it useful, or do they try to sell me overpriced crap signs? (Seems like they could send free signs to encourage me to sell their product in more locations) I seem to recall someone on the forum selling nicely laminated signs for any candy you could think of. Has anyone tried his product, and if so what was your opinion? I may get the tools to do it myself at some point, however given the size of my fleet I don't have the economies of scale to make this my top choice, and the shipping should be very cheap since labels will be light weight. (Whoever sells these, you are welcome to chime in. I will consider your response as a sales pitch though ) I have an LYPC triple. The lock for the top is not in place, looks great, but do not have a key. The lock on the back is very beat up and the door is open. I do not have a key for that also. Is there one standard LYPC key that works on most of their machines? If not, does anyone have advice on how to remove the lock from the back door so it can be replaced? Following that, I may be looking to buy two locks and 1-2 keys for the machine. I'd prefer to buy from a forum member of course. If you need candy wheels we could arrange a trade. I put off putting together this long string of Qs for two days >->. I finished the job that was making me angry though. Down to two jobs (counting vending), and pumped to make this my best month yet. lurtsman
Another question. I bought a Northwestern triple without testing the coin mechs. the middle one turns about one tenth of an inch. So there is VERY little play in it. It does not turn as far as it would have to for the lack of quarter to prevent a vend. It does not care if a quarter is in or not. Because it's a NW triple, it is VERY difficult to get inside as it is built like a tank. Any advice on how to get this to work is greatly appreciated. They will send you as many labels as you want....M&I and Hot Tamales free of charge. They are stickers you can put in the machine or you can laminate them. They will mail out fast as well. lurtsman
Called them and having several sent out. Also PMed bacho to buy many for my rp/skit/mmp. This challenge has been much easier and cheaper to fix than I was expecting.
lurtsman
More updates: I sent my order in to Hot Tamales company a couple days before buying the other stickers from Bacho. Hot Tamales will take as long (or possibly longer) to arrive because they shipped about the same time, and the Hot Tamales one managed to: 1. Place my apartment number before the street address 2. Misspell my last name 3. Misspell the street name I'm planning to call them and try to get it fixed with several more sent out, since 3 mistakes like that combined may prevent the post office from finding me. Bacho on the other hand was great. Since I'm picking up more machines this weekend I'll have to focus on getting these vendstars ready (and installing some of them) over tonight and tomorrow. I need to scan the forums for the information about how to keep quarters from stacking on the chute. That is happening to me in large amounts -- does it prevent vends, it seems like it would once enough landed? Also, does this problem happen with 1800s? I'm going to be putting 19 more of those out on route over the next month or two. <3 Having a thread to post all my questions in.

JPVendCo.
in all seriousness, a place like ace hardware or do it best home center might have some locks that would work on this. and there would be no shipping.
JPVendCo.
I need to scan the forums for the information about how to keep quarters from stacking on the chute. this isnt too hard to fix. I used some inner tube,(got mine from a airplane tire, it is like 4 ply or something outragous) cut them into rectangles, a little more then 1" square. there is a little "step" that is supposed to guide the coin into the tray, well that one is short and stupid, and doesnt even come close to doing the job. take some super-glue and carefully glue your square of rubber onto the stubby POS of a coin guide, and voila! boo-ya your coins go where they are supposed to. I had one location break my machine because they were moving it to mop, and the base fell off, they tripped over it, and candy went everywhere! i would steel wool it, sand gently, and apply a *THIN* coat of rustoleum paint.thats what I have done for a few.... JPVendCo.
or if its only rusty on one end, put the rusty end in the bottom. boy it irritates me when I try to pull the top off and it comes loose at the base!!

lurtsman
BUY A NEW STAND This is the option I won't do Great advice by JPVendCo. Do you happen to have any pictures of what the "fixed" version looks like. I do not think I have any rubber that matches the description, but seeing it may help me understand the philosophy. I may also vend several times with the head off. I do have the superglue, though I suffer from being a very visual learner.
lurtsman
For removing sticker residue: Does goo gone work? I've heard recommendations of lighter fluid also... Using plastic wax does more smearing it around, but I can't seem to get the plastic underneath to really look clear.

lurtsman
it normally looks hazy, when I put my new laminated labels on, I use double sided tape and attach it from the outside. Interesting, I had been attaching from the inside to avoid vandals ripping them off. More updates. Lime away works well. I took out the broken lock from the LYPC. I purchased 20 1800 triples and got one more thrown in. I have to significant problems that I do not know how to fix. I have busted locks in the top of 2 of my vend star lids, just one side on each, but I do not know how to remove the lock from one to move to the other for one complete lid. Doing that would get me another machine that is 100% ready to go. Does anyone know how I can do that? One of my Northwestern tripleplays has a mech in the middle that won't turn. It turns about 1/50th of a turn and stops dead. If it was glued, I would not get any movement. I cna not figure out how to get it out to get a good look at it. It does not appear like I can take the candy floor out either to get above the coin mech. Any idea how to diagnose and repair this? It's another case of one thing fixed gets an entire machine good to go. Also, I will be needing to buy locks. Anyone selling them cheap? I'll contact Westlake also for this. lurtsman
Nevermind about the vendstar lock. Used what I learned from broken lock and transfered the lock just fine. Northwestern triple mech still needs help.
